Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

You've got it Phil! I was about to give a groanworthy hint about there not being "stacks of mountains called bluffs" ... but you beat me to it. Well done - a panorama from Stacks Bluff it is.

Over to you,

cheers

Peter

I've been up there twice actually; there's a tranquil little tarn to drop in at on the way back down too

I remember the second time I walked up to Stacks Bluff I dragged along a friend of mine and also an American tourist that we'd got to know. It totally blew his mind when we got to the top; he thought that all mountains came to a 'point' and couldn't believe his eyes upon reaching the plateau!

Anyway, I'm running out of photos that aren't glaringly obvious.........I'll give this one a try; where am I?

Peter
that was a really nice pano from Stacks Bluff.

Phil
I reckon you are almost up to the scree on the Barn Bluff ascent - looking west through Fury Gorge
Sort of looks familiar :)

 I think that is one of the most precise answers we've had yet for 'the game'........and undeniable evidence to back it!

I think it goes without saying........over to you eggs!

There have been a few exhaustive follow up photos from tasadam and co.
But I guess it means that quite a few of us have swarmed all over the more popular spots in Tassie...

Hmm those power lines/towers confuse me.. Mt Reed has a few towers on it but I don't think it's that.
Howabout Mt Beecroft taken from near the road?

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Not Mt Reed and not Beecroft.

This is from a road & they are comms towers up on the side.
PS - every Tasmanian should climb this mountain once - because its easy & it has great views. I have been up there 2 times.

Ok I guessed this one last night and was way off.. will try again.. Barrow??

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Not Barrow - this place probably gets a lot more rain than Mt Barrow.
It also looked a lot different when I first went up it.

More rain.. must be up the west coast or central Plateau then... more areas im not too familiar with....

Blackwood?

I think it is Mt Owen. Probably looked different because it had a lot less trees on it than earlier, eggs? I think the waterfall is also quite well known? Did you take the photo on the road down from Gormy into Queenstown?

Can you get that close to Owen from the road? Wow! I really must get up there to bag a few sometime!

There is a four wheel drive track that goes up from just past Gormanston. Looks like a strightforward walk, though I haven't been up there myself. The whole area has a fascinating history. I would like to do a walk around the Jukes-Lyell-Owen area (also fits in with my interest in geology)

Yes swifty - this is the view from the road down the side of Mt Lyell.
I think we squeezed a park on that tight road - as it was before the lookout stop over Queenstown.

I think they are called the Horsetail Falls. Very visible from the road after a good rain.
The walk to the top of Owen begins right at the top of the pass by following the 4WD road up to the top communications towers and then making your way past them over the bare rocky tops.
Mt Owen was denuded along with Mt Lyell by the stripping of trees, followed by acid rain from the smelters, followed by intense erosion from the massive rains they get in this part of Tas. However, the vegetation has been making a strong comeback since I first saw these bare hills. This was 2 photos stitched from this last summer.
