Interesting - I wouldn't have thought you could see Nevada peak from there.

Here is an easy one for someone who hasn't had a turn and has been champing at the bit to show off a photo!

The next generation of walkers?

Nice! I passed a school group at the wineglass campsite recently while doing the circuit! A great place to introduce youngsters to the good life!

Am going to be at work tomorrow, Stu (if available) can be my voice on this one. He knows this peak!! Direct all guesses to him!

Good luck!

Bit tough handing it over to stubowling
This is normally the time when he hops on and answers one
(keep up the good work stu - its participation - at least regular restrained participation - that keeps the show going.)

Anyway - this has taken me an awful long time to figure - a terrific spot in the photo.
Couldn't squeeze it into Pindars or Mt Lot - none of the Overland Track (which ILUVSWTAS has yet to get to) - or any of the ranges down the south east side .

The sharp ridge and peak and the columns at the rear combined with a largish deeply incised lake had me scratching my head. Oops careful not to thin the hair out any more.
But he should have said - "I will be going here soon" - that would have helped :)

Anyway - about the only spot I can match it too is a view of Lake Rufus etched into the sides of the King William Range.
The peak on the ridge probably has a name - but its not in the LIST.
So the pecular columns to the rear must belong to one of the peaks in the Loddon Range. They are definitely rough, but my only photo is end on - so I cannot see any columns if they were there.
Anyway - to get this view I suggest a zoom shot from Mt Hobhouse.

Exceptional reasoning as always eggs; to have said 'we will be going here soon' might have given it away tho.

His shot is indeed from Mt Hobhouse, the pyramidal peak is called Slatters Peak on the King William Range.
I must say even tho I have also been to Hobhouse, those columns in the distance looked strangely unfamiliar.
You can't quite make them out on the photo I posted a while ago of that area from Mt Pitt, but almost certainly part of the Loddon range.
Over to you eggs...

Genius work on Hobhouse guess Eggs! Proving very difficult to catch you out!
The sand on this shot looks veryfine and dark. Typical of the South or North.. ??

Im going to say sisters beach just as a wild stab.....

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Not sisters beach
Think - I am looking across the water to the shore on the other side.

Ah geez.. Dont ask me to think.. Ive been up since 4am :)

Hmmm not looking across to Mt Stacey are you?? Or Over TO Schouten?? Or From Maria Island Over... Hmmm how many guesses at a time am I allowed

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 10 Sep, 2009 3:59 pm

You're just testing me - Mt Stacey?
Had to look it up - I presume you mean across Coles Bay. No that's not it.
You see the headland across the way - sort of looks like a 'table' - well the clue is it is not a cape.
PS - nor an island (not counting Tas that is  )

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 10 Sep, 2009 4:11 pm

Ah of course Knew it had to be up north with the colour of that sand Wynard looking at Table cape??

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 10 Sep, 2009 4:13 pm

Well you got table right - but the clue is - it is not a Cape.
It is also not on the North coast.
It is seen by a lot of tourists though (not all are bushwalkers)

Table HEAD from maybe braddon point?

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 10 Sep, 2009 5:25 pm

Yes - thats it.
Also know as Macquarie Heads - it is the beach at the entrance to Macquarie Harbour - where all the Gordon River cruise boats pass by.
We are looking over part of Macquarie Harbour to Table Head.

June 13: Picture 001 [walkinTas] Hounslow Heath looking south to Cradle.
July 01: Picture 113 [tas-man] Griffiths Ridge, Loongana Range, side looking at Black Bluff.
August 01: Picture 208 [tasadam] Black Bluff looking towards Cradle Mt.
September 01: Picture 261 [stubowling] Denison Range, north of Reeds Peak on the way to Bonds Craig - looking west.

Current (above): Picture 305 [iluvswtas]

June=112, July=95, August=53, September (so far) 45.

I don't want to put a dampener on things so maybe I should say nothing, but I can't help noticing September has been moving along at a very good pace.

Ok, will get the guesses going...
The peaks in the middle look a little like Mt Montagu / Cathedral Rock... If I'm right, the water you can see would probably be the Huon.

I think that's pretty good problem solving there kramster;
I also know he's been along the Wellington Ranges recently.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Fri 11 Sep, 2009 10:08 am

Ok, think I know the answer... but might wait a bit to see if anyone else can get it :)

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Fri 11 Sep, 2009 11:04 am

I am a bit surprised.
My first thought was that it was Mt Montegu and Cathedral Rock with the Huon behind, but looking at the List I could not believe that such a view would have no signs of civilisation in it.
Of course the clarity of the photo could have something to do with that

Anyway - I had given up - and it was time for someone else to solve this fuzzy one.
But the view on Google Earth is intriguing - I reckon you should go for it Kramster
