tastrax - so Collins Cap is west from Collins Bonnet?

Actually, I thought that until I noted you were going to work from east to west - and was stunned to see that Collins Cap was North - and the mountains I think you should be after are indeed west.

C'mon, c'mon.... so close!
This peak is probably not visited all that often (but worth adding to the "bag" if you traverse the Wellington Range along the East West Firetrail...)

I see you also have access to Google Earth kramster - same view as mine but with a bit more of the foreground in it - and much better colour capture

Thankyou to whoever it was that indicated that it can add mountain labels - albeit it in not quite the right spot.

I do use the LIST and Google maps, but I have very rarely used Google Earth in 3-D - and normally out of curiousity - as in this case.
But I was surprised by the 6 letter mountain name that popped up when I got this view - so I will not try to answer this time.

Whew... (how silly would I feel if I was wrong now? )
I spent 2 nights out "on the range" about 10 years ago when I first moved to Hobart, ticking off all the peaks (Wellington, Arthur, Connection, Collins Bonnet, Trestle, Marian, Charles, Patrick).
Surprisingly not many people seem to venture past Collins Cap or Collins Bonnet - so it is kind of a remote location so close to Hobart.
Easy walking too - as you can keep mostly to the East-West Firetrail, then just duck off cross-country near each peak.

Ok, time for something a little left field...

Ok - so I can see someone's left their boots/shoes behind - maybe a backroom in a shoe store ??..

And a wicked looking machette - so it could be jungle infested.
And haven't seen groceries packaged like that for a few years now...

Actually good tracks on all those peaks now! Patrick being the roughest but still a good pad/tags to the summit. Little bit of scrambling up the final rocky tower of Charles also.

That one was a little lucky, the only hut I could think of with a museum.
I have been going to Mt Field since I was a baby, it's like my home mountain & I love the walking & skiing there :D
I do remember being scared senseless by this hut as a young child tho, it just looked so haunted back then...
probably still wouldn't sleep inside it, cold, musty smelling & i'm still a little afraid of it
Beautiful setting tho...

Ok, Going away for the weekend so this is Pigsty Ponds from maxwell ridge. The larger lakes are the reserviour lakes. Was hoping Stu would see it before he went home, As he's going up here soon. Its one of my favourite places and ive been there a few times, The tents can be seen in one of the circle shaped squiggles and the other squiggle is a MASSIVE boulder I know he will really really want to check out ( being a boulderer ) I'd recommend getting there nice and early in the day to give yrself a couple of hrs climbing on these Stu they look very impressive! Imagine that falling off the edge of Maxwell Ridge crashing down the cliffs to the floor below!

The other lines show a route which can be followed from the amazing king billy pine forest (great tent site) to the top of the ridge. An interesting option if you dont intend to climb LaPerouse on the way up!! A bit steep and scrubby in places especially if you take the wrong way.

Nice one Kramster. Its a good thing that modern First Aid kits are a tad smaller than the one in the second photo.

It is a lovely photo from Maxwell Ridge.
It gives a better overview of Pigsty Ponds than I had seen before.

But I tend to hang back a fair while unless I think its a really hard one (like your shot from Mt Hobhouse - which still took many hours to solve)
At least I hope I am hanging back - trying to balance that with the idea that participation (c'mon stu) creates a good flow which can keep up the interest as well.

Aw that nice of you to say so Eggs! It is one of my favourite shots but then sometimes my favourite shots are because I love the place so much!

I was surprised the one of Slatters peak took you a while! Thought thats such a grand peak it would be easily identifiable! Glad it took a bit of thought tho!

BINGO! Its just past the main carpark on the right handside - not many folks wander down that way anymore as they all stay on the tracks closer to the blowhole.
