Recipe poo... noodles - no dehydrator required

Sun 26 Jul, 2015 12:33 pm

Hi everyone,
We have just joined this board and thought before we start asking questions we ought to offer something first. We don't have a dehydrator so have to be a little inventive with our homemade long life/lightweight meals.
This is my latest recipe, tried and tested.
poo... noodles

Tot packaged weight 238gm plus 750ml water
Serves two

Ingredients:
20 Gm dried poo... noodles
50 Gm dehydrated peas from supermarket
1 massel veg stock cube
1/2 tsp garlic granules
1/2 tsp onion flakes
Pinch chilli flakes
1/4 tsp Chinese five spice
1/4 tsp vegeta chicken stock powder
2 bundles ( half a packet) of wokka wholewheat organic noodles ( we break them in half before leaving home so they fit in the pan and take up less room in the pack)
1 1/2 tsp white sesame seeds (pre toasted in a dry pan at home)
1/2 tsp black sesame seeds (pre toasted in a dry pan at home)
5gm fried shallots

Method
Place 750ml water in saucepan. Add poo... and soak 7 mins
Turn heat on, add peas, bring to boil, simmer 5 mins.
Add stock cube, and spice packet (garlic granules, onion flakes, chilli, 5 spice, chicken stock pdr), stir
Add noodles, stir (sort of bury the noodles as there isn't much fluid for them to cook in) and cook 4-5 mins
Turn heat off, leave to sit for a couple of minutes to thicken and for noodles to finish cooking
Serve and sprinkle with fried onion and toasted sesame seeds.

Note - for people who are on a low salt diet replace the two stock elements with salt reduced stock.

Enjoy :)

When you say "20 Gm dried poo... noodles " do you mean poo... mushrooms or shirataki noodles or something else?

Are your mushrooms pre sliced? The ones I use are whole, and take considerably longer than that to soak, so I'm assuming so!

I often do dried mushrooms, dice them up, then dehydrate. Takes no time to rehydrate them

I use these pre-sliced ones from Coles: http://shop.coles.com.au/online/national/dali-mushrooms-shitake-dried-sliced

Regarding the filter not liking the name of the mushrooms in question, try spelling it "shiitake" with a double I, which is actually the correct spelling. I hope that would get through!

As tempting as it is to leave it as is for entertainment value, I will go ahead and edit the shiitake out of this post :)
