Solomons Throne overlooking Lake Ball? No idea of the mountain though.

cmon, you'd have access to all those maps!
I suprised myself when I found out actually.. Google earth shows them up pretty well.

but you are correct.

Maps are at work   - have to rely on the old brain cells and they are suffering a little at the moment. Google earth is way too slow on my connection but I will keep thinking. Its a long way in the distance....

How about a clue for the mountain?

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Fri 11 Sep, 2009 10:45 pm

well the peak in the very centre of the pic and the barely visible bulk of mountain on the left of the photo- they both overlook the same valley. Also there was much logging in that valley last time I was up there.. patchwork quilt-like :?

well im fairly certain thats what mts they are. eggs will check im sure :)

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

That didnt help me much but it did make me look at the image a little bit more - I had not noticed the flat mountain in the distant left. I am not too good on the Plateau areas as I have not walked there all that much.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Fri 11 Sep, 2009 11:17 pm

Ah well, I was referring to the Florentine Valley, with the pointed mt in the middle being Wylds Craig, and the bulk to the left being part of Mt Field.
Someone may prove me wrong, but it does seem to fit. Long way away though!

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

First look at the photo (had to blow it up) and I thought the plateau on the left was Mt Field.
The only mountain that could be the peaky one is Wylds Craig.
Driving between Derwent Bridge & Hobart gives a few views of Wylds Craig - and it is a very prominant peak in the area.

The peaks further to the right are harder to make out - I suspect the Thumbs, but could be Mt Wright.
Definitely a long distance view, but I had not picked the lake.
Which is funny - as I have been to Lake Ball. And to the top of the Western Wall as it was then called. But not to the end from where this photo was taken.

I presume tastrax is posting the next one.

I am out of (Tassie) pics at the moment so its a free turn for anyone that wants a go.

I would not have guessed it was Wylds Crag - I was thinking we were looking more to the north of Wylds Crag ...makes more sense now.

In this competition - hmm not sure about that?
Yes - there it is - under a different topic.

A slightly different angle though. You must have been impressed enough to take 2 photos

All this beautiful weather, folks have headed bush today. Unfortunately I am working
Had a couple of good mornings in the garden though :)

I assume it's the hanging lake loo?
Hoping to get there next summer...there's always hope :D

What are the three extra 4X2s for? Beating off the competition or are the rats particularly large?

I reckon you can post the next one stepbystep
- as the "other" photo was titled Hanging Lake Loo
- under the post on "favourite bush dunnies"

That sounds like a good thread, I've seen a few good dunnies in my travels, must look for some shots!
I'm stuck at work so the shots are limited.
This one is off track a bit, just went for a wander in the bush near some accommodation I stayed at recently.
What will suffice is the name of the nearest town or an island close by.
I'm off for tonight but will PM eggs as a proxy.

I've been told where this is - and with such a long distance shot it could be hard to place.
A clue is that the bit of land in the foreground is in fact part of a small island.

Satellite Island? (near Alonnah)
It looks like Perouse and Pindars in the distance

well done robl

Yes - stepbystep took this across Satellite Is from near Allonah - Pindars and La Peruse in the distance

Did you know that Tasmania is a collection of 334 Islands (not counting the very large one to the north). List lovers like me can read about 257 of them here.

I hope this is of correct difficulty. (It is slow on dialup.)

The close up ones always call for local knowledge - I have been round the entire island in satellite view and nothing jumps out.

Initial thoughts are: high tidal movement - mud flats - granite boulders - houses, but probably remotish.
Also - the Norfolk Pine implies it has been a settlement for a while.
Possibilities - Tasman Pen - Huon estuary area - Binalong Bay area - Arthur River or Pieman River - Leven or Forth River estuaries.

Nothing found yet.
PS I also notice when you save the picture you can see more to the RHS than by just looking on this page!!

Perhaps a little hard to guess.
Hint; just behind me is the means to reach one of the great north islands.

The terminal and the new work.

This one is grounded on the bar.

That's a pretty big hint, possibly you are standing on the bridge at Bridport looking upstream.

wobbly is correct.
I am on the bridge over the Brid River at Bridport, looking upstream.
Very different from the port scene on the downstream side.

The wobbly pic.
Looking over Pegasus to Procyon (both on the right) from High Moor.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

wobbly

- looks like the view from the track into High Moor across to Pegasus South with Sirius directly behind it.
Mt Robinson more distant on the left.
