Mt Anne summit

I've heard about a fabled alternative route to the summit, on the Pandani Shelf side?
It was not described to me as being easier, just safer and less exposure.
Harder rock climbing moves but consequences of a fall were less.

We turned back from the route on the west side when very close to the top due to incoming weather.
Yes - there were at least 2 small cliffs to scramble up, but there was little exposure on these.
I felt that a few more minutes of looking around would have got us right on top, but we couldn't spare the time.
Well worth trying again.

I believe there are 2 lines of cairns - one climbing up into the gully, and another at a lower level traversing to the NE Ridge.

There are at least three lines of cairns, and the summit climb is - as Azza said - a little harder but less exposed. But if you can get from Pandani Shelf to the start of that route, you can do the climb itself.

I think that was the correct route that we went up, Tortoise.

The route coutours around to the north west side, just below the almost vertical buttress visible on the left (west) as you approach the summit. It branches off as the track gets steep for the final ascent.

It hard though, definitely more technical with some fun bridging and climbing.

I was hanging out for an easier option, given the description of it by non-climbers-but-supersonic-peak-baggers as 'easy'.

Yeah, although it's more of a bounce if you fall rather than the splat of the other route.
