GPSGuided wrote:LOL, what was more important? REI shopping or go for a paddle? Trust you caught one of their sales.
Shopping only, no paddling. I just walked a few kms downtown from our hotel to check out the store and found these guys having a ball. It was about 90 degrees F in Denver but we'd been in near blizzard conditions the previous day up on the continental divide. Yes, they had a sale on

.
Anyone please go next.

I think things are generally slowing down in these games wayno.
And especially with the distractions at this time of year.
However, I will take your assurance as a reason to move on.
Still in NZ - name the peak in view.

I would have liked to have got a closer view of this peak. As it was - I just happened on a nice roadside location and it "inspired" me.

Years ago I was going to try the ice axe to get a close look but developed a sore achilles at Gillespie Pass and postponed it.
I got a good view from Cascade Saddle later.
There is a popular multiday walk around the midsection of this mountain. The fence is made from a nothofagus species.
Name the mountain.

Wayno has correctly found Chilean Patagonia, but this castle like mountain is further north than Fitzroy on the major highway named "Carretera Austral".

Things are slow. I have no idea but recall answering a similar one. So I'll take a stab that it's in the same region - Ruapehu?
Wed 06 Jan, 2016 12:22 pm
Yes - it was not meant to be hard. Ascending Ruapehu - looking over the Pinnacle Ridge, Mt Doom [Ngauruhoe] in cloud

Long time dormant. Do you know it's name, English or native?

Yes eggs, I'm on Diamond Head (Lēʻahi to Hawaiians). We spent a couple of days in Honolulu before returning from Hawaii in September. Stayed in Waikiki only about 3kms from here. So I walked to the crater and did the popular short hike to the top. Very interesting historically and for the great views.

I feel safest sticking to NZ, but this is another from Europe.
Might be a bit tough.
Name the refuge in view

- Rifugio Elisabetta beneath the Col de la Seigne [border of Italy and France] and the impressive Pyramides Calcaires as seen from the climb onto Mont de la Saxe above Courmayeur
