TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Alternative uses for old gear

And a thank-you to Drew for the old tent
While this old Salewa Micro has no further life as a bushwalking tent it has been marvelous for babysitting the Tadpoles, they can go "Camping" in a real tent in complete safety in the spare room and it has been no trouble to get them to go to bed and go to sleep
Turns sleeping at our house when their mother is away trying to get a "Real" job from a struggle into a real adventure, complete with sleeping bags and head torches but no scary animal noises
A thought for others with old freestanding tents at the end of their life

anytime I get new equipment (tents, stoves, etc) to replace something that is still good with something lighter the old gear gets used elsewhere.

for example my old cook kit now lives with my search kit, not going to be used as often but still handy to have
old tents that are still good get put in storage in case someone new to bushwalking needs gear.

Another possible use would be as a bed tent in a cold hotel or drafty base camp tent

actually i saw a good idea for old or cheap tents too, they make good sandpits for little kids, shady, keep the sand in one place and keep cats out

I've seen old mesh inners rigged as bug nets in cottages, and have used a pup-tent fly as a tarp. Old poles could be rigged to hold up a bed net.

Older gear for me just ends up in vehicles or other such kits for use around home. Torches and the like are always on standby for obvious use. sleeping bags can always get kept for extra bedding, or cleaned up and donated.

When we moved to the bush (Creswick) we found a wardrobe with a missing cross bar (hanger)
I fixed that with a reshaped stick I found around then a few days later I remembered that I had kept a piece of a dead Carbon Fiber pole that a friend had broken after using it for the first time. (lesson learned : don't put long sticks inside a bus luggage area)
It just happened that the Stix fitted perfectly :

It actually fits over my lengthways XL cheap stretcher, so it is possible I can use it myself this winter in this configuration and making it even warmer by throwing a LW sheet and fleece over tha top
That should remove any cold stress from my sleeping environment and maybe I'd not need my winter bag at all
