Hi All,
We're planning to do Federation Peak over Easter and were looking to arrive in Hobart (from Melbourne) on Good Friday (25th March) to start the walk. Obviously we cant take fuel for our camping stoves on the plane, so we're just wondering if anyone can think of somewhere that we could pick up fuel in Hobart (or on the way to the Yo-Yo track head) on Good Friday when everything will no doubt be closed?
Thanks!
Paul.

I was going to suggest getting a canister posted to yourself, for collection from an AusPost parcel locker.
But Hobart doesn't seem to have any.... The closest is Launceston!
I think you'll have to get someone to buy and stash one somewhere in advance. I could possibly help with this, if no one else steps forward (I don't live in Tassie, but I have contacts there)

Thanks bumpingbill!
I had thought of the postage option, but I'm not sure you're allowed to send flammable gas in the post for the same reason you're not allowed to fly with it.
If we could use one of your Tassie contacts, how would that work? Would we transfer them some money and then swing by and pick the gas up on the Friday?
Cheers,
Paul

Call Mitre 10 Hobart, (03) 6230 0300 to check they have it, if they do not they will be able to tell you if there store at Cambridge or at Glenorchy and if they will be open on Good Friday.
Or a better plan maybe (assuming you are accessing via the Farmhouse Creek access call the Geeveston Hardware store 03 62971296 whom I know have had shelite in the past and check if they are open Good Friday and if they will hold a bottle for you.
Or possibly the Geeveston IGA which is more likely to be open Good Friday (03) 6297 1319.

Thanks wander!
I had already tried Bunnings Glenorchy, but they were going to be closed.
I tried IGA Geeveston too as per your suggestion. They'll be open and do sell gas (not shellite though) but only have one canister in stock and were unsure when and if they'd have more by Easter. I'll call them back closer to the date.
Cheers,
Paul

Surely one of the Hobart members here could buy some fuel for Paul to pick up and pay-back as he passes through?

I have about 3 litres of Shellite in my sister's shed at Clifton Beach. If all else fails you could have that but not sure how you would get there though its not that far from the airport.

Wow! Ask and ye shall receive! Thanks for all the replies everyone. I asked on a couple of other forums too and now have several options from helpful folks like yourselves. We should be able to sort something out.
Thanks again,
Paul

Paul,
I have only tonight just reactivated my bushwalk.com account after being dowmant for far far too long.
I happen to live in Hobart, and work in Kingston which is on the way to Farmhouse Creek.
If you don't have a solution yet, PM me and I can sort you out this week.
I can buy whatever fuel you need, keep it at my work for you, and you can pickup reimburse me on your way past.
Jim
