Thought today 13/02/2016 I would try to access Mt Mueller tomorrow. Wilkinson book says there is a locked forestry gate..... Can't get keys on a weekend. Can anyone confirm that it is locked.... Thanks Mark

Far as I know it's kept locked, but to walk in from the gate is only an extra hour or so each way.

The gate hasn't been locked for as long as I can remember. Last time I was up there was about two weeks ago- all good, no locked gate.
Take gaiters or long pants as the first half hour of the walk is very scrubby at low level- but well worth it when you walk around on the summit!!

Thankyou. The book is 5 years old now - just checking. I also keep thinking things must have changed by now with Forestry. I don't know why I keep thinking that - Lapoinya and the new Forestry gate on Arve Rd past Geeveston both suggest status quote maintained- but I can have wishful thinking. We have a plan B.

Hi
I was wondering if you could tell me how long the return hike is to Mt Mueller?

Depending on your level of fitness, it could take anywhere between 5 and 8 hours.

Much easier to call Susstainable Timber Tasmania. They control access(and don't check the forum).

Lol Will do. I just didn't know how accurate the info would be. Been burnt before, so to speak - somebody in an office who thought they knew but didn't.

I was there about a fortnight ago, I had no problems with access.

I recently asked SST about this gate and was advised it was currently shut for forestry operations but was due to be 'opened' - 'soon'. I'm still waiting for further clarifiaciton on when exactly but this advice doesn't seem to line up with the info above. Trying to get accurate information on these gates is very difficult - it would be good for this stuff to be posted on line. Any further updates from anyone?
