Gone Bush.....

There is no doubt the Tasmanian bush can be a dangerous and intimidating place at times. Warnings on PWS literature and at walker registration huts do their best to warn people of the risks they are about to take. But it is not only the un-initiated or plain stupid who get into trouble. Experienced walkers pushing their own personal limits in unforgiving wilderness regions can still come unstuck. It is just likely the experienced walker will have more resources to call upon when things do go pear shaped.

Dave Noble made reference to a guy named Wade Butler in a recent post who disappeared on a solo walk in the POW Range. That got me wondering just how many people over the years have ventured into the wild areas of the state for their last time. Parker Critchley is a name that springs to mind and I know the OLT has had it's share of fatalities. Peter Dombrovski and Olegas Truchanas are 2 experienced walkers who failed to return home.

Who else has gone bush for the final time..........?

Yes very sad. But there is a story around Joe Picone after whom the lake up there is named.
I believe it was written up in another Tasmanian Tramp article.
He was a valued member of the bush walking fraternity, and it was a place he loved.

I went through uni with the sister of number 32.
She was one of 2 girls traversing Mt Lot on a grassed slope.
The girl in front heard nothing at all, but turned back to find her gone.
I believe they went in via the lake to retrieve her body.

Clare Hutchison also went missing in the Labyrinth during December 2000 and has never been found.

Noticed Dorothy is number one.
The last woman to die from Snake bite in Tasmania.
Hopefully with increased first aid knowledge, plb's and the rescue helicopter,
The list won't grow too much.
