I'm proxying for eggs, who is a way for a couple of days, and I'm afraid that is incorrect.

He's away for a couple of days yet browsing this page..... sneaky. hmm well as I said i've no idea! Just wanted to have a guess.....
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 8:45 am
About to head off - but you are in the right part of the state
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 11:00 am
Well have a good time Eggs!!!
Wheres Swifty?... He seems to know a few of the peaks out west.......
EDIT- Still no one ?? Is it in the Frenchmans area??
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 3:26 pm
I reckon the lake in the middle's name starts with M, and so does the one to its left
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 3:35 pm
Margaret and Mary making it Sedgwick??
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 4:35 pm
Mary is the name of the Lake with the Island, and Martha is the one you nearly can't see. The big snow covered lump is Eldon. If all that is right then iluvswtas is close.

Geikie? Actually I think he's on the little bit of high ground between The Chin and Lake Mary.
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 6:59 pm
I reckon that's near enough.

. Eggs' official description was:
The spot I am after is Mt Geikie or Geikie Peak [I think the name has changed over time] in the West Coast Ranges - looking over Lake Mary towards Eldon Peak.
However, 2 points if someone says 'the Chin' - which is more accurate.
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 7:19 pm
2 points!
Next one! This is the one I didn't post the other day - just for you Iluvswtas, because you wanted to know if it was harder.
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 9:49 pm
Maybe a bit harder than normal because there isn't much to get a bearing from, but you don't need that much wisdom to guess, and you'll be richer for the experience.

Anyone know the name of the waterlillies?
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 10:00 pm
Ahh that description is dripping with meaning..
It looks like the WOJ.. and Solomon was a wise fellow so maybe one of 'Solomons Jewels' would fit quite nicely
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 10:04 pm
Well spotted Nick S, I thought the clues might help. Yes, Solomon's Jewels, WOJ.
Mon 05 Oct, 2009 10:13 pm
i enjoyed working it out wtas

this one is quite obvious if you've ever driven around tassie, but then i dont have an old slide collection to turn to..
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 5:25 am
I think you are standing on the knuckle looking west past Storys Bluff to Stacks Bluff.
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 1:34 pm
your turn wT
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 4:59 pm
Try this one (apologies for quality). This is on a 150mm lens.
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 6:23 pm
Thats gotta be Frenchmans....... Thought maybe the King Williams at first but GOTTA be zoomed more than that maybe?? Hmm interesting, time for a closer look
Love the picture btw!
Still dont know, Maybe it is from KWI??

ILUVSWTAS wrote:Thats gotta be Frenchmans...
Yes, gotta be!
ILUVSWTAS wrote:Thought maybe the King Williams at first but GOTTA be zoomed more than that maybe??
You are close. More about angles than distance now.
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 6:40 pm
I reckon it's from Mt Rufus.
With Australia tarn and Mt Gell in the foreground
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 6:44 pm
Sounds good Nick! My views from Rufus were White and slanty......

Surprised you can see the Frenchman that well from there, but makes sense! Gell is an impressive looking sucker!!
anyone been up there??
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 6:45 pm
Yes Nick it is Rufus looking past Gell to Frenchmans Cap. I think the tarn/lake is most likely the next one over the other side of the Hippogriff, up against Mt Gell - for which I can't find a name.
Your go.
Tue 06 Oct, 2009 7:08 pm
LISTmap says that australia tarn is the closer lake, dont know what the further lake is though..
ok now for some trivia, why is there a lake Hermione just north of Mt Hippogriff? is this a harry potter coincidence!? please enlighten me.
The next peak along is called the Chimera, yet another mythical creature, but not in harry potter sadly..
ok next photo

Is that the start of the track to Strezlecki Peaks?
Wed 07 Oct, 2009 3:31 pm
that's it
Wed 07 Oct, 2009 5:18 pm
Here is one that might interest a few - its not mine as it was taken in February 1929! I think I know where its from but would like some confirmation.

- Where am I?
Wed 07 Oct, 2009 5:29 pm
Taken from Mt Beatitie I'd say!!
Wed 07 Oct, 2009 6:18 pm
That was my deduction as well - all yours
Wed 07 Oct, 2009 6:23 pm
A top picture it is!!
Ok where is this??
