TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Hi everyone,
I've finally gotten to the point where I feel I could justify getting another tent. Presently I am using an old second-hand MacPac Eclipse (1.5P, 3-season, 2.8kg!) that I purchased off eBay about a decade ago... but it's really too short for my fiance who's 6'2" (183cm?). (I've inadvertently lightened it up a bit by having to replace the poleset when one fractured on a trip... and as Macpac doesn't make the tent, and didn't have any spare poles anywhere anymore I ended up purchasing a similar and slightly larger poleset and cutting each section to size with a hacksaw

)
As a relatively short female I've never really considered that tents could be too short for someone! Whoops!
So I'd like to ask the brains trust for suggestions for an appropriate tent. My preferences would be:
1. 2 person
2. 3 season or so
3. Able to accommodate a tall-ish guy of 6'2"
4. At the very least, lighter than my current tent as I'll probably use it from time to time solo
5. Preferably fly colour sympathetic to Australian environment- see 'female hiking alone' thread- if walking solo I want to be not glaringly obvious
I don't use hiking poles but would be happy to look into some collapsible poles if there's something that people would typically use hiking poles for and is otherwise a clear winner.
Any help appreciated!!!

You have probably already considered the
http://tarptent.com range from researching these forums but the Stratospire 2 is very roomy for 2 and easily fits a 6'2" person in it so does a few of their other tents. I like that particular brand as they make a quality tent thats light weight and have the range to suit most peoples needs.

I'm 6'2" and like a bit of room in a tent and I use an EXPED Gemini 2 for my 3 season tent mostly solo....I've found it to be an excellent tent that'll accommodate 2 easy-enough and the near vertical end-walls make all of the 2200mm length floor totally usable making it feel longer than it actually measures. I had a Tarptent Scarp 1 and it was quite long in the floor & nice and roomy for one but I didn't like sliding around all over the place on the super-slippery silnylon floor though so it got moved-on pretty quickly....can't fault the Gemini 2 and it's a great tent IMO. Cheers

In the Tarptent range if you prefer not to use your trekking poles for the tent (otherwise the StratoSpire 2 will work) you could look at the Double Moment or if you like more floor space the Scarp 2.
They all need to be seam sealed (can be done by TT for $35) .
When seam sealing put some stripes or dots on the floor and that will stop your mat sliding around.

Thanks for the suggestions, one a and all (and keep 'em coming!!)
I'd not considered any of the Exped range- the Gemini does look good!
And the Tarptents look fabulous too-- although I've not seen one of them in the flesh (and I'm in WA). The dots/stripes of seam sealant on the floor to stop slippage is a great tip!

I am 6' 3" and fit very well in my Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2. It's a three season, 2 wall, free standing tent. It weighs 1.4kg but can be trimmed down a bit. The seams have already been sealed on them. It's mainly an orange colour with a bit of beige so it has an "earthy" feel and can be inconspicuous depending where you're camping.

I have the Mont Moondance 2 which fits 2 of us, pretty cosy, my partner is 6'6". It's fine for him lengthwise. It's around 2kg with the additional footprint.
Edit: it's a taupe colour.

I'm 191cm and use a Big Ages Slater UL 2+. Plenty of room for 2 and no chance of my feet/head touching the ends.

I have a Big Agnes Flycreek UL2 bought from Campsaver a few weeks ago for $400 Australian delivered ($280 usd plus expedited delivery), its a bit cramped for 2 persons and the length is a little short for a tall person.
Even with the exchange rate at 76c to the AUD $ that is still over $100 cheaper than you can buy the same tent in Australia.

Hi,
First of all i must declare that I sell Helsport tents from Norway. So i don't want to make this a commercial post/sales pitch. I thought I'd comment because i think it is very relevant. Norwegians are mostly tall so it reflects in Helsports tents designs.
Most of Helsport tents have an internal length of between 230-240cm (7'6" to 7'10"). Good for tall people.
Mods please feel free to delete this post if you wish.

Im 6ft7 and fit nicely into the Goondie 3 and Tarptent Double rainbow.
The Double rainbow I feel comfortable staying with a partner but not a mate ...its a little to close!
The Goondie is comfortable for sleeping with 3 (If your into that type of thing)

I'm I'm not but have had to cram 3 people into the aforementioned 1.5 person Macpac!!! That was not entirely pleasant. A group member forgot the fly to her 2p tent so they crammed into mine instead!

I am 6 " 2 and I use a Wilderness Experience 4 seasons tent that is a roomy 2 person tent all year round. It fits well with my extra long Exped syn mat and Exped sleeping bag , both the extra long models.
