Sorry for the late response, yes John you are correct

Thanks Frenchy, looks more rugged and decidely colder than the next one.
USA, name the National Historical Park that contains this canoe shelter. Bonus point for any more detail.

Google Images tells me it's Pu'uhonua o Honaunau place of refuge national historical park, Big Island, Hawaii but I don't think I can pronounce all of that.

Sorry Graham, not Pu'uhonua o Honaunau but you are on the correct island and coast. Head north.

Hmm. I was sure I had it as the pictures looked exactly the same. I guess I still have no idea then.

Fishponds, fishtraps and petroglyphs

A lot of lava not far from the airport
Fri 15 Apr, 2016 8:42 am
From the clues, that would be Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. I drove past there from the airport but didn't venture in.

That's it Tyreless. Worth a look if you visit again. I did some beach/rock walking at one stage and encountered a large sea turtle.

Cheers John. Not sure when I'll be able to get over there again. I saw a lot of sea turtles whilst snorkeling nearby (I think it was Kahaluu Bay).
I'll post a new photo tonight when I get home.

Lovely part of the world in this photo - but where on earth is it?

Wayno's World...

There is a rumour that this photo was taken from a place named in honour of a cinematic gladiator.

Anagramatically, I like this area on "a fondly basis".
Tue 19 Apr, 2016 3:35 pm
Despite the Norfolk Island Pine in the foreground, I'll go for Bay Of Islands (NZ).
Tue 19 Apr, 2016 3:41 pm
That's right, it's the Bay of Islands (viewed from near the town of Russell).

This one is in North America. Sorry about the lousy quality, it's a scan of a blurry old photo.
It's a place you will all have heard of. The tiny white rectangle near the top centre is a marker of some significance.
I'll be bushwalking for the next few days. If someone gets it, and knows that they've got it right, feel free to keep the game going without waiting for my return.
Death Valley, Nevada

I'm surprised no-one has guessed this.
The little white rectangle near the top marks a very significant contour.

Death Valley near Badwater.

You got it, Tyreless. The little white rectangle marks sea level.

One of these days I'm going to finally visit NZ and see some of these things for myself - Franz Josef Glacier
Sat 23 Apr, 2016 11:02 am
That's right... you should get to NZ.
And yes, it's Franz Josef Glacier.

Thanks Tyreless. Working on it, just need to convince non bushwalking Mrs of the merits...
Next is in the South Pacific. Name the much visited location/protected area I'm in:

- From Ouen Toro (Peak/Hill/Mount) overlooking Ile Sainte-Marie towards Mont Dore and distant hills - Noumea, New Caledonia

There is an Aussie connection with the hill/mountain I'm on, which has a relationship with 25th April commemorations, oui?

La Nouvelle Caledonie alors? Is that a little warmer ?

That is warmer vagrom, oui

. You have the country, just need the location. A lot of tourists visit both the town/city, and the high point I'm on for the views. If it helps there is a heavy artillery gun emplacement behind me.

Ouen Toro peak (232m), on Grande Terre Island, in Noumea the capital?

Yes that's the one vagrom. Apparently there are also hiking trails around Ouen Toro Provincial Park, but this was a very short visit so didn't have time to explore further. Over to you.

Where is this? Town I worked out of during '79.
Visited by the Coastal Steamer. Has a Youth Hostel.
