TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Zephyros 2 - anyone have any experience?

This tent seems to get good reviews from what I can find but mostly in overseas groups. Was wondering whether anyone here has used one. I am looking for an affordable lightweight 3-4 season tent to get myself back in to the swing of hiking after a few years off(due to injury and limiting our walks to more day walks due to raising a family). It is a (smallish)2 person but light at around 1.8kg and potentially less by tweaking the pegs, etc which to me makes it an appealing more roomy one person option. At the moment I can pick one up for about $220.

I have a Laser Competition 1 which is the same design just scaled a bit differently. For the money they are a very stormworthy tent - I have had a comfortable night in 100kph winds fully exposed on North Ramshead. The main issue is ventilation or the lack thereof, they really need a top vent or something better done with the end triangles (like Hilleberg Enan). The two person models have two doors so it may be a bit better. I also wouldn't be put off looking at the Zephyros 1 - there is not that big a difference between them and the 1 has a larger vestibule which has taken away with the larger inner tent in the 2. Generally mine gets used in Koscuiszko but not in lower, warmer locations.

PS - MassDrop have just put up the Laser Competition 1 and 2 models around US$300 delivered.

Thanks. It will mainly be used for mountain walking so it may not be such an issue. I did see a reference to someone who came up with a way to lift the end of the fly slightly to improve ventilation so that may be a simple fix.
