Yeh I bet!! Looking forward to that one myself! Gotta do 2 more peaks before the KW so slatters can be my 100th!
Hmm better have a guess at this rather than blabbling away.... gotta be an Arthurs shot somewhere doesnt it??
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 2:10 pm
Yeah, Slatters would be a good one, see what you can do b/w now & next week.
In my tradition you'd be obliged to indulge in a 'beverage' on the summit for the tonne.
Back to the game...yes, it'd have to be
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 2:12 pm
Hahaha ok I'd better lug a couple of beers along for the first 2 days to crack open on Slats!!
Is it west Portal??
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 2:19 pm
Not from West Portal...
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 2:20 pm
Speaking of repeat shots
- this one looks like you could paste it directly to the side of your last one from this spot and make a really wide panorama

Although it was from back in June - so that's long enough to come back to it.
I think you are on Mt Canopus looking to the Western Portal and the Crags of Andromeda with a lot of mountains hidden in cloud behind - and if I ever get back to the WA this looks like a top side trip.

I think the shot you're referring to was looking at the spot where I am in this photo...yes, same vicinity...
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 2:29 pm
You sure Stu?
It looks like the ridge off the back of Phoenix on the right rear with the ridge wrapping Lake Venus in front of it?
Surely you were on Canopus?
Edit - and the right hand side of this one matches almost exactly the LHS of the other.
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 2:46 pm
For some reason I had this photo marked as being taken from The Phoenix but upon inspection you are absolutely correct eggs, it is from Canopus looking at Centaurus Ridge, West Portal & the Crags of Andromeda...the game has gone so far I am now tricking myself
over to you eggs....

OK - in the spirit of keeping it different, this is another tourist shot (not bushwalking)
Enough with the clues:

- King River Gorge from the tourist train

Serpentine dam??
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 3:22 pm
No - not Serpentine. I would be a bit closer to the river from that wall.
In fact - this photo is not from a wall or a road.
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 3:25 pm
Yeh I thought so, checked my photos from the dam and thought MAYBE there was some zoom used.. It was similar enough to have a stab.
Hmmm not from a road must be a suspension bridge or airwalk of sorts.......
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 3:36 pm
Actually not from a suspension bridge or an airwalk.
Edit - the river through the gorge in view is said to be able to rise to 40 m deep in flood conditions.
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 4:44 pm
Are you on the chairlift in Launceston
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 4:51 pm
Never been on it but is it on the Abt
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 4:58 pm
Norts - that will be close enough.
This is from the restored ABT [rack and pinion] steam railway running between Queenstown and Strahan.
If you look carefully on the LHS you will note some reflection marks in the photo from looking through the train window.
It is from the high point looking directly into the King River Gorge.
It was a very relaxing way to spend a wet day on the West Coast - the forest is very lush and the train takes you right into it.
Incidentally - the King River suffers from pollution due to the heavy metals from the works at Queenstown that transfer into it via the Queen River.
The river is substantially improved these days - but is still considered a dead river.

The polluted river gave it to me

Pindars peak from Wylly plateau?
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 8:37 pm
Yes, Pindars Pk, but where am I?
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 8:44 pm
Not Wylly Plateau?
Hmm ok Maybe PB with zoom?
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 9:03 pm
Yes, from PB High Camp, taken in the morning. I was very embarrassed for the remainder of the day after dropping down the wrong gully to the west.
Tue 13 Oct, 2009 9:09 pm
Dropping down the west from PB? That could have been nasty!! I've been over that route both ways and the country around PB is NOT forgiving!! Obviously you didnt get too far before realising your mistake?? I guess if you start going downhill FAST you'd be wondering what was going on......
This was one of my Pindars shots from PB Shows the lovely (much nicer than high camp) little spot on the eastern side of PB I camped ( the bottom photo)
So where am i here.....
