Parks Vic survey

Fri 15 Apr, 2016 12:35 pm

I got an email from Parks Vic with a survey about camping. Good opportunity to let them know your thoughts about some of the contentious issues discussed on the forum. Link below.

Drew, thank you for the link. I thought it was worth putting as much detailed information as I could in the Comments boxes below the simplistic responses. Maybe someone might even read my information, maybe not. But as it was not hard to do, I figured it was worth a try to get these bureaucrats to think beyond the all-so-obvious "choices" that are really non-choices.

Done. I'd still like to see some sort of yearly pass system rather than the current camping fees.

Good point, Snowzone. I sent a long list of parks I visited in the past two years in the answer to that particular question in the survey. Many others in this forum would have long lists. When follow up research is done, it would be useful to ask Parks Victoria about taking such evidence into account when assessing fee structures.

Too bad they don't ask "oh by the way what do you think of our pricing policy in our campgrounds ?". I just mentioned it when they were asking about private campgrounds, telling them it used to be expensive, but now it's not compared to the ridiculous steep fees in Parks VIC campgrounds.

Did not some answers have an option that involved camping costs? Were there sections where a respondent could write about topics? I think I wrote about costs.

OK, one of my bugbears is that in Victoria they charge for a group of 6, regardless of how many you actually have. In NSW they charge you per person, usually $5 per night or $10 per night. Last year I stayed in the Warrumbungles national park, bitumen road to the campsite, flush toilets, showers with hot water, $5 per person per night.

PIty.

Also a pity that poeple haven't listed their gripes here. I would like to know them too. Though of course I"ve already discovered the issue of high prices.

Read away stroller. The high prices were worse a short time ago.
At one stage dispersed camping with no facilities at all was going to cost $13.50 per night.....for up to 6 people of course
It all started around 2013.

I'm travelling to Canada this summer, and they've done the same as Australia. Now their campgrounds are all like 30 $ a night, 35 with power hookup. It's different from Australia because they almost all have power, water, and hot showers, some even have wifi, but it also means that it's not very wild. Oh, and they charge you 10 $ for each online booking, just for "reservation fees"... even if you book for multiple parks at the same time. So in the end you pay like 40 $ a night. Again, like Australia, regular private operated campgrounds are now less expensive than parks campgrounds. The world is upside down. Oh and of course each park has its own entrance fee.

For my money Neil, I prefer free and no facilities than all the other options. But I do appreciate that wouldn't be ideal either for parks and for the weekending types.

It's all been discussed at great length before but the big issues with these camping fees is fair value and the crap no refunds booking system.
I prefer no facilities out in the sticks too but a long drop or composting dunny here and there is not bad though.
I wouldn't mind some kind of Parks pass ($100.00 per year?) to help pay the costs.

This thread has been a sticky for a while. Should it be made un-sticky?

As the survey has been closed for a while and there's no link to it on the Parks Vic website, it would make sense to un-sticky it.
