Being a Canon tragic my first thought was that you'd found one of the many lens caps I've lost over the years. Then I remembered Kinglake is one of the few places that never happened . . .

Most likely that's half a lower jaw bone from a sambar deer.....plenty of them around Kinglake. All the teeth are up so it's a couple of years old at least (or was) but the teeth ridges are not worn too much so it probably wasn't an aged animal. Interesting to see how all those small plants are living on it too. Good find. Cheers

Thanks heaps sambar358. I was just doing some research and thought it could have been a deer
http://www.jakes-bones.com/2015/04/can- ... -this.html Glad you could confirm that for me. As mentioned I originally thought it belonged to a wallably but the size didn't seem right.

Haha. It was my lens cap used for size reference. I have also lost a few caps over the years so I normally buy a few spares at once from EBay for about $2 each.

Lots and lots of animals died there in 2009, both domestic and wildlife .

Actually looks like the remains I stumbled across near the junction of Diggers and Margret falls checking out MickyB's waterfall co-ordinates.
