Transport problem Launceston-WOJ then Lk St Clair Hobart

Sun 16 Oct, 2016 6:06 pm

We're (2 people) planning a trip in March 2017 flying into Launceston AP, transport to WOJ CP or Mersey Forest Road for drop off. Then pick up from Lake St Clair 8 nights later. Getting the stuff we are not taking on the hike from WOJ/Mersey Forest Rd drop off to Lake St Clair seems a challenge we can't solve. One solution would be if we can find someone with a car to pick us up from Launceston AP, detour to buy gas, drop us at WOJ/Mersey Forest Rd, hold our stuff for a week, meet us at Lake St Clair a week later with our stuff and drive us to Hobart AP. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Strider, Thanks. Yes, that seems to be the best option we have thought of so far.

How are you getting to Mersey Forest Road (which I think is currently still closed)? When coming from WA we've used commercial operators for track transport and they will keep your other stuff until they pick you up, not cheap though. I don't know my roster that far in advance or I'd offer to help but you need more certainty than that. The other option is to modify your walk so it's a loop with the same start and finish point but not sure what you've got planned.

Hi Hermione, We'd just assumed that Mersey Forest Rd to Juno Creek car park was open. Will confirm that closer to the time. We've used some of the commercial transport and maybe just didn't find the right operators as had drop off point reluctance and new gas bottles that ran out quicker than normal. We've exhausted our new loop options so have decided to do a one way this trip with 8 nights out.
