Yes it is Mt Zeehan - but we were there in 1983.
I do remember a dirt road to Strahan - and I think it had not changed from 1980 when I first worked in that area.
That is the road in the second picture skirting the south side of the mountain.
But I think that road has been sealed now?
I also have a vague impression that at one stage [probably before 1980?] you could not go all the way through on this road - I believe it follows the line of an old railway line - at least in part.

Thanks eggs, sorry about my bad guess at the date. My old maps are misfiled.
And I don't really know.
New pic!

Near Ringarooma looking at Maurice under cloud??
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 9:35 am
Not Ringarooma, but you are right to guess that the cloud obscures a great mountain.

I am not sure why - but it "feels' like Gowrie Park looking towards Mt Roland
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 11:28 am
"feels"?
ILUVSWTAS is much closer.

Rossarden?
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 11:37 am
Rossarden. A good view of Stacks Bluff (number six in greatness) can be had from here most days.
tastrekker, your go.
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 12:20 pm
Will have a chance to scan another pic in the next hour or so...
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 12:33 pm
I thought it had the eerie NE small town feel to it...
The big kangaroo was a bit of a clue too.
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 2:05 pm
No prizes for picking the mountain. I'm at the start of a walking track. Which one?

Eerie eh? Eggs' post tempted me to go into a discussion about the different feel between an old hydro town and an old mining town. I won't because people in either type of town may come after me. Suffice is to say Rossarden does not feel like Gowrie Park!
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 2:12 pm
Perhaps I am just not "feeling" well today
I must admit I rapidly lost any 'feeling' on Gowrie Park the more I thought about it.
It is amazing that that rather thin looking cloud cover was concealing Stacks Bluff.

On the Gog range?
Mon 26 Oct, 2009 3:26 pm
Looking towards Mt Roland, but from where? Don;t have the time to search around on google Earth!

haha, Rossarden is a creepy town. drove through recently and the only sign of life I saw were the deer just walking among the houses. Great place for a b grade horror flick.

ILUVSWTAS, That kangaroo is a tame feral deer. (two or three more on the right)
This is a part of the strange "feel" of Rossarden.
tastrekker, I have noticed and am appreciating the differences.
But as a mainlander I won't comment on Tassie culture.
(I was going to post more Rossarden pics, but have thoughtfully refrained.

Woah, well i'll be! Just presumed it was a roo....

Mount Roland it is but not from the Gog Range.
Clue time...
The track is to a watefall which has a discussion entry on this forum which I commented on. I also blogged about this particular waterfall at

At a guess I would say the start of the Hogg Creek Falls track as it's in the right area, but I have no photo to post if I'm right!

Can't find Hogg Creek on THELIST DA. Where is it? I was a golfer in my previous life. The view looks like that from the Sheffield Golf Club. One of the holes passes near the start of the Kimberleys Lookout track. You have reminded me about the track TT - I have been wanting to do it when the surrounding fields are green - about now would be good.

Devon Annie is on the money. Yes, Gerry Duke, it's a similar view to the view from the golf course. Hogg Creek is slightly further to the north west giving quite a square on view to the front of Roland. From Kimberly Lookout at the southern end of the Badger Range, you are looking towards the north east corner of Roland.
For those wondering where Hogg Creek is, follow this link:
http://www.tasmanianarboretum.org.au/maps/maphogg.html It is near the top of the Paloona Dam Road between Forth and Sheffield. I believe this land was annexed because the Arboretum itself did not include a ferny gully typical of north west coast streams.
If Devon Annie can't contribute a pic, perhaps Gerry Duke could offer something...

OK TT. I will dig one out. You must have been just about everywhere. I am envious of your knowledge of Tassie!!
Gerry
Meanwhile I have found one. Another of my favourite places.

Couta Rocks?
Tue 27 Oct, 2009 12:06 pm
My guess was maybe Tomahawk or Cape Portland area, I can only vaguely remember Couta Rocks, its been years since ive been down that way. You may be right though.
Tue 27 Oct, 2009 12:57 pm
Just about right Robl. The beautiful coastline between Couta Rocks and Sarah Anne Rocks to the north.

Thanks,Gerry.
Why is this shack interesting?
Tue 27 Oct, 2009 5:43 pm
Is it at Cockle Creek ?
Wed 28 Oct, 2009 7:09 am
Looks like Cockle...maybe it's interesting because it's the most southerly shack in Tasmania?
