TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Thermarest Z lite Sol

Does anyone have a thermarest z lite sol? Just wondering if anyone can comment on how comfy/uncomfy they are to sleep on

Not made for comfort, insulation value only and not much different in my very limited experience to a cheap CCF pad of the same overall thickness.
Only used the once, a single night, tho so not a long term opinion

On the comfy, cheap, compact triangle they only achieve cheap and that is only relative to self inflating or blow up pads. I have only used a standard Z Lite rather than the Sol variant (R = 2.2 rather than 2.6). I ended up using it cut down to 4 folds (100 grams) as a sit pad/under the legs insulation with a short mat/back support in a frameless pack and it worked well in those uses. Used on its own I consider the insulation level is suitable for +5 degrees.

Thank you both.

I guess that means I will not transition to one of these as a sole sleeping pad for the time being then (but maybe in combo with something else like you have Mark). With my Exped Synmat UL9 constantly deflating I'm realising I can survive with a little less padding at night...and I might be able to save on carrying the UL9's bulk and weight.

It might be that I'm comfortable sleeping on hard surfaces, but I found a 3/4 length zlite to be as good as my neoair original. That being said, the bulk is rather annoying to deal with if you don't want to strap it outside your pack. To deal with this I just shortened my neoair to torso length and will do what Mark F does and cut a few folds of the zlite as a sit pad.

I too have only the standard Z-lite, but I think the comfort, or lack thereof, would be the same as the Sol.

For me it is slightly better than CCF, but as a walking sleeping pad, used on its own, way too bulky and simply not good enough.

As something to go under another mattress when car camping, or in a swag, it, like the Ridgerests, is great.

Okay thanks all. I have been thinking about transitioning to one as if you cut them down a bit you can use it as the back support for the GG Mariposa.

I suppose I could try combining it with a torso pad and see if that works out.

I love gear shopping...but it's also a bit of a money pit!

There's currently a 3/4 length neoair xlite in the marketplace for $99.

I like mine. About to take it on the PCT. no holes, no repair kit. No blowing up. Like its height too, can roll around a lot more.
