TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Trangia and nail polish remover!

Postby woka » Mon 16 Nov, 2009 9:23 am

My niece is currently travelling around South America and has my trangia with her. Despite having a list of translations for metho to suit several SA countries, she has had difficulty finding any (shes in Nicaragua at the moment).

She ended up trying some nail polish remover and... it worked!!

But before i get into all the joke possibilities - I'm a bit concerned if it's OK to use in the spirit burner - mainly if it's explosive.

Any budding chemists who might know????

On that link, scroll down past the list of names chart and you will find a heading called "Argentina" . There you see where and how to buy the stuff.

Thanks all, the info is much appreciated. I've passed it on to the one who manages to keep her nails imaculate while bushwalking!

I gave her a (spotless cleaned!) fuel bottle as well, but I'm not sure if they took it with them. I'll find out when I get a chance and see if they had any problems.
