North East hikes with dog

Wed 26 Jul, 2017 8:13 pm

Hi all, I'm crossing the straight mid-August and am looking for some decent day walks I can hike with my dog in North Tassie. Anything from 1 to 8-ish hours, circuit or return. I don't mind walking the fire/logging/mining tracks when I'm with the pooch. I do mind the crowds, but I suspect they'll be light on the ground in late winter. I've heard Mt Farrell out back of Tullah is a good one and is probably a good example of what I'm after (from the track reports). And Derby is all the rage now?

Thanks in advance! Any tips and recommendations appreciated!

Ben Nevis is a fine walk with a dog and Quamby Bluff is good as well.

Here's a bit of info that may be useful.

Welcome to the forum :)

The Humbug Point Recreation Area has two good circuit walks from Dora Point. One around the coast to Moulting Bay, and one around the coast to Binalong Bay.

Also some good info in this forum :-

Thanks so much, geoskid and slparker! And thank you for the welcome.

I've also found this blog: https://rockmonkeyadventures.wordpress. ... -tasmania/

I'm sure the blogger must be on these forums. While not specifically dog-related, some of the day walks they do are in forest reserve.
