Yep, of course looking at Hyperion again.
Your go.

Thanks Adam.
Ok, a very easy one next to keep the game moving along...

Artichoke Valley, Frenchmans Cap Track?
cheers
Peter
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:01 am
Yet to get there but from pics i've seen it looks like Artichoke valley?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:09 am
Indeed it is, Artichoke Valley, a nice morning tea spot on the lawns
Sorry SW, Peter beat you to it by a whisker.
Over to you Peter...
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:14 am
How did you manage to get there for morning tea? Oh, I get it, left Tahune hut on way to Vera...
The story is we took all day to get from Vera to Tahune because we had our cameras in operation, lunch was on the track just over Barron Pass.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:17 am
Thanks Stu - sorry about the ILSWT. Maybe you'll get this one
cheers
Peter

Geez thats alright mate! No need to apologise for getting in first

Nope, no idea on this one at first glimpse..... Nice flowering scorparia tho
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:19 am
Other way around Adam, left Vera hut for Tahune
Also had afternoon tea here on the way back (i.e we just did a day trip to the summit & back from Vera).
Yes, probably a little less photo phaffing from our end, I'm a point & shooter at best

Beautiful shot Peter, great variation in flower colour.
The pretty side of the devils plant!
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:23 am
In the same place I also saw this remarkable phenomenon. A Bennetts wallaby sipping the nectar from scoparia flowers. For such a fearsome plant, their nectar is very sweet indeed.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 9:30 am
Lovely photo of the wallaby. And I am hoping to see some great displays of scoparia flowers in early Jan.
I see that we have gone full circle in the game - and the "vegetation signature" has turned up again.

Scoparia flowering rates seem to be highly variable, and I'm not sure what the triggers are. But after a particularly wet winter, it may be a good year.
Where will you be going in January Brian?
cheers
Peter

I have 2 trips lined up in early Jan.
The first is a leisurely 5 day warm up with most of the family starting from Lake MacKenzie and exploring through down to the Walls of Jerusalem. Thats were I hope to see some flowers.
Then 3 of us harder nuts will do a 5 day venture on the Anne circuit - including a night out on the NE ridge.
Brian

Both excellent trips too - have fun!
Meanwhile, no-one is guessing where this great display of scoparia is. Hint: it's taken from a very well-known track,
cheers
Peter

Well Eggs did show us where it is on his link. He can finish this one off.....

Is this from the OT near the Waterfall Valley turn-off?
[The ridge in the background with the vegetation signature leads to Barn Bluff]
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 10:24 am
Yes Brian - well done. It's just south of Waterfall Valley, with Bluff Cirque in the background.
Your turn (and good luck finding some flowering scoparia in a few weeks),
cheers
Peter

Well - here goes another one.
A zoom shot to make it a trifle more difficult.
PS - I notice we have now passed 500 unique "Where am I" posts. Haven't done a year of this yet.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 10:34 am
Hmmm Looks a bit like the Denisons, but the angle seems to be wrong.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 12:04 pm
Those cliffs look similar to the ones dropping into Crater Lake, am I warm?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 12:27 pm
Maybe from the slopes of Sarah Jane looking to Schnells Ridge area (Smiths Tarn slightly obscured by the morrainal dam)?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 12:48 pm
stu is closest. You cannot see Smiths Tarn from this place.
I might get the view from Sarah Jane on our next trip.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 12:57 pm
Hmmm, probably from the slopes of Eliza then (zoom shot)?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 1:08 pm
Yes stu - probably about half way up the ascent to the hut on the side of Mt Eliza.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 2:01 pm
A slightly different perspective...
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 2:23 pm
Perrins?
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 2:40 pm
Kinda right area adam, Perrins is close by...
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 2:53 pm
Last guess before checking my photo database - Thetis.
Wed 16 Dec, 2009 2:58 pm
Getting colder now Adam...
