eg reminds me of some of the lakes near the Traveller Range & Mts of Jupiter, such as Lake Kellatie
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 9:11 am
Bit scrubbier than that area I would have thought.....??
Not Central
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 9:20 am
Yeah - good point (although Kellatie is a bit scrubbier than most). So I need to go west or south (or even north-west). While fishing for better clues, I'll take a stab at one of the lakes beneath the King Williams.
cheers
Peter

You'll need to aim your Donkey Tail a bit lower on the map....
It's quite a charming little lake this one!

Judd's Charm [Google Earth calls this Spanner Lake??] as you descend from near Mt Sarah-Jane
If so - this is my second planned trip this Jan - wooohoo
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 11:31 am
Yeeess. Well done.
Though in this case I was on the way up Sarah-Jane. You'll enjoy this trip Eggs, it's a real classic!! Mt Lot is alot of fun!
Spanner lake?? I think Google earth is a spanner at times.....

Next one:

- skirting around the second ridge of Rogoona on the way to the main ridge

Enjoy the Anne area, Brian. It is wonderful.
You pic is a little reminiscent of approaching Mt Rogoona from the east, although the background looks different,
cheers

over to you whynotwalk
This is indeed skirting around the second ridge of Rogoona before heading down to the tarn in the photo and up the far side to the true peak.
Not sure about the background remark - although the clouds are obscuring both barn Bluff and Cradle Mountain (you may be able to discern their bases?)
The clear ridgeline is the northern edge of the Cathedral plateau.
PS - there must be something about Anne - I have climbed it once on my first visit to Tas 29 years ago - and I have been along the Eliza plateau on 2 other occassions since without summitting.
Been on Schnells on 2 other trips - but whiteouts both times.
Never done the circuit - so that is the great goal this time.

Thanks eggs - the message is, trust your first instinct!
Okay, this one is a little obscure. The lakes have no names, so what peak am I near?
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 3:56 pm
Hmm gotta be central.... Spurling?
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 4:46 pm
no - further north, and (if I recall correctly) east.

The mention of lakes not having names is actually a clue,
cheers
Peter
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 4:48 pm
So does that make it Lake Nameless?
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 4:51 pm
Ironstone??
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 4:59 pm
Right area Phil but not close enough. And wrong mountain SWT.
We went "over the back" from the nameless lake, via a numerical peak <nudge nudge>
Name the peak and it's yours,
cheers
Peter
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 4:59 pm
forty lakes?
Fri 18 Dec, 2009 5:03 pm
Yep - Forty Lakes Peak is the nearest peak. We counted lots more than forty from the top, BTW. An austere yet attractive area.
Your go SWT,
cheers
Peter

I reckon it's Ragged Jack. I had to sleuth this one.

And I can tell you that it took you 42 minutes to put your camera away, climb to the top, and get your camera into
action again.
Mind you, would not have got it in a fit if you remove exif data from your photos.
Sat 19 Dec, 2009 6:22 pm
I don't know who is proxy for ILUVSWTAS who is off peakbagging. But seeing as I am the 'lass' in the photo I declare myself authorised to tell Tasadam that is correct, it is Ragged Jack.
Sat 19 Dec, 2009 8:45 pm
Anyone can post the next photo.
Sun 20 Dec, 2009 5:58 am
Pretty quiet on the forum...
OK then, here's a photo. Something different, something anyone can have a go at, and something for which I
shouldn't need to come back and say Yes you're right... That is, if you're sure, let the game continue.
Bonus point if you can tell me what datum I had my GPS set to.
Sun 20 Dec, 2009 2:09 pm
oops - I was SWT's proxy, but only just logged on. As Amanda confirmed, it was Ragged Jack. Thanks for keeping it going Amanda & Adam.
And just so someone's playing, I will guess that you're on Goulds Plateau. I'm sure someone more GPS-attuned than me will do better!
cheers
Peter

Hi Tasadam,
.....well it depends on the settings in your GPS - you could have it set to AGD66 to match the 1:25,000 series (which is my guess) and that would place you on the Acropolis.
If you were using GDA94 then I am sorry but you are slightly "geographically embarrassed and lost in the scrub to the west of the summit"
Sun 20 Dec, 2009 2:47 pm
Ahhh - I thought Inspector Gadget (aka Phil) might jump in on this one!
I only have a hazy memory and a fuzzy background pic. to go by. So I reckon you and your hi-tech gear are on the money Phil
cheers

I should be out walking somewhere instead of slobbing out in front of the computer Peter.... perhaps I need to train up some of the Head office staff with these gadgets so they don't get left behind.
Have another go Peter as I don't have any images on me at the moment.
Sun 20 Dec, 2009 5:08 pm
Very nicely done Phil, very nice indeed. And no, I wasn't lost in the scrub off the side, once you know it's the Acropolis you can probably recognize the shape of Lake Elysia in the background too.
I really should carry riggers gloves...
As Phil said, your go Peter.

Thanks to Amanda, And thanks to Whywalk for sorting for me while I was out peakbagging! (the NE of Tas is quite a boring but easy place to walk)
How do I remove the exif data Adam?? And can everyone access this? or is it just you clever (or cheating) mod types??
