Fruit I.D.

Can anyone ID these fruits...Tropical Northern Qld, Ngalba Bulal NP, Cedar Bay track.

Fruit/nut from a large broad tree, where the forest meets the sea...fits in the palm of your hand, tennis ball size.

bumpy lumpy middle of the rainforest fruit/nut...

or any of these...apart from the coconut.

Little red fruit in the bottom pic might be an Alexandra palm (my first thought) but might not be either.

Unripe coconut on right. Ones in front could be figs? A bit hard to tell.

No problem mate. funnily he just recommended the following. "Best reference is Cooper and Cooper Australian Rainforest Fruits. The field guide is good but I use the the main book"

Bty any chance you recall an estimate of the size of the mixed fruits in the picture and that lumpy looking green one? I will send through as well.

Rough guesstimates...

Lumpy bumpy 20cm long

Orange foreground 4cm diameter
Green middle 10cm diameter
Deep red middle 12cm diameter
Red on left 6cm diamer

Ofuros, best guess.

Green lumpy oblong fruit is most likely a green Flindersia seed capsule - one of the Crow’s Ash/ Queensland Maple family
Tree with green seeds - Beach Calophyllum - Calophyllum inophyllum - Toxic
Large square sided seed is a Barringtonia asiatica - Toxic
5 Orange fruit - possibly one of the Cluster figs - Ficus spp. -
Red fruit not sure- did they have a single large round seed inside the thin woody shell?

I usually dissect the fruit & see what surprise there is inside but not on this occasion.
