I only know of something similar in book form. Tasmanian author Bill Wilkinson of "The Abels" fame, also compiled a mainland version titled "Tables of Australian Mountains - A State by State Guide". Similar rules to The Abels apply to qualify as a mountain, such as minimum drop on all sides, etc. It provides simple lists for different geographic regions giving name, height, rank and grid reference. I found a copy at a book sale ages ago but suspect it may out of print. But maybe not - http://www.regalpress.com.au/pubs/framePUBS_MT.html. Otherwise second hand book stores etc might be worth a try, or contact Bill Wilkinson directly (search the forums for details). In the meantime I'm happy to look up my copy if you need any specific info.

a list of SA mountains (yes there are some non-flat bits over there) was compiled by a couple of ABW members to comemorate the clubs 60th anniversary. If you want a copy, PM me and I'll send it through

Sittings underrated though :D (afterall...what would walking be without somewhere nice to kick back  )

It would take far too long for you to copy all the relevant data, but thanks for the offer.
At least I know where to start looking.

edit: Gee, that's great. I've ordered both the Abels and the Mainland list. T'riffic. Thanks heaps.

4WD? We got up Erks Loop Rd in an old Commodore.

I was a Peakbagger, and I will add my points up again but I have a slight problem with remembering exactly which ones I've done! Did we actually get to the summit of Mt so and so? Or did we bypass it?
And where do you have to start from? I've been up Mt Gog without walking more than 100m.

I think about 98 but I may have been up a couple incidentally like Moonlight Ridge which you just walk over on the way somewhere.

Actually, I recall we took the commodore, as well a camry belonging to Koolix. The road surface wasn't really a problem but in places the sides were quite overgrown. So best to take an older car if you value your duco!

I think a chainsaw can be helpful on Urks Loop too at times. This track has been cleared a couple of times by a local 4WD club.

I was able to summit 13 peaks before the weather fouled up in the Western Arthurs recently. That accounts for about a third of my points! Next big trip is gonna be the Eastern Arthurs. When I got the time and the weathers alright I'll eventually get around to finish off the West.

Just curious but how are you peak baggers keep tabs of your peaks? I had a query about it and can recall seeing a spreadsheet that tallied them up, but couldn't pass on the site where it could be downloaded. Since then I have located a couple at Tasmanian Track Guides website. They need a minor bit of re-jigging as you can enter climbing a peak say 5 times and you get 5 times the points.

An honour system Peter, the spreadsheet I have works by simply putting a 'Y' and can't be re-counted.
More importantly though - what was the total?

OK you can email a copy
Quite a few years ago I added them up, but can't recall the total. However I will tick them off in the spreadsheet and see what they total. Care to make a guess!

Wouldn't have a clue Peter I know you have done the Arthurs/POW a few times assume you've been thru Spires, most of the reserve etc etc would have to be 500-600 at least, so how about 568?
....and what about Sue?
Will email a my list as I don't have a blanc - that will save you 2 minutes
You need to be careful not to put anything in a field you're not meant to - I just found a 6pt discrepency, turns out there was a fullstop in the space for 'The Flame' so I've just lost 6pts I thought I had - back to 64 for me :( The other list you pointed to is interesting as it has the old list on the same table - I'm 68 according to that list.
Bit of fun more than anything really, I'll be happy if I make 300-ish by the time I can no longer walk.

Cheers, Dan

I've been using the spreadsheet, but now I'm working on something a little more sophisticated.
Half the issue for me is locating peaks. Using the spreadsheet and a bit of google magic...
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=http:%2F%2Fwww.users.on.net%2F~aljscott%2FTasmaniaPeakList-AS.kml&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=53.310395,78.662109&ie=UTF8&z=7

I've got some other interesting stuff in the pipeline too.. just struggling to find the time.

Cheers

Aaron

No where near as many as him, but more than you. I would rather be more your age and have less points though!

Well I have now done the count and your guess was mighty close. There are a few I am pretty sure I have been up, but as I wasn't sure I haven't counted them (I will have to look up the map to help my memory). Anyway the tally is 274 peaks and 597 points. Only have 7 points in the north west; that tells you something.

Very nice Peter! I knew you would be high. Having done quite a few walks with some people I know who are 600-800pts I thought you'd be as high as them!

Very impressive, thought I might have underestimated  you've got to find another 3 somewhere....

Hi Mark,
Sadly, more of a track bagger than peaks. Injuries and age are gradually limiting what I do and where I go.
That hasn't stopped me from poring over maps and planning for the next trip!
Along the way, I have managed to climb some interesting peaks, but not always getting to the actual summit. The journey, being in some remote hard to get to places and sharing the experience are high on my list.
Cheers
Andrew

I managed to attain 4 summits from the peakbaggers list down there a few weeks ago, and I just worked out that I only got a lousy stinking 5 points all up for my efforts! That won't make my miserable total much better.

We don't give 'em up easily! Well, at least now you can say you've been there, done that, and don't have to go back. :D

Actually I need to go back to school and learn to read and do sums properly :

Needles 1
Wedge 2
Trestle 2
Collins Cap 2
Total = 7

Anyway that's better than 5 :D. How can Collins Cap be worth 2 and Needles is only 1? Not that it matters, at my current rate of progress, if I ever finish all of them I'll be at least 158 years old.
