A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.
Common words
Base pack backpacking the mass of the backpack and the gear inside - not including consumables such as food, water and fuel

Yep! A great time to be in the market for an UL tent.
I hope that was a loose back to the future reference as well.
EDIT: I was thinking of the Libyans...

Ah "the Libyans".
I have been racking my brain all day for the Cuban reference.

This desease has become so serious the government has now released a warning
Due to a recent outbreak of Cubens, all bushwalkers are advised to check their bank accounts and then head for the hills. Cubens have a habit of hiding in backpacks so please check before leaving. If one is found while on the trail, be aware that you have now become infected. There is nothing authorities can do at stage and no known cure. Please notify family and stay in the wilderness for as long as possible.

This thread is driving me up the wall - and no doubt doing so to every other pedant within 500mH of it. The material is Cuben.

Millihenrys? What do you mean by mH?
The material is no longer Cuben. Get on board, the ship has "sailed". It's DCF now.
