TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Mass Drop - Bombarding me with emails

Sat 20 Jul, 2019 8:57 am

Anyone worked out how to reduce the volume of incoming? Im receiving daily mails from them and its frequently full of stuff im not interested in like 'everyday carry'

I wouldnt mind a weekly summary of new stuff relating to lightweight gear but I cant see a way to specify how often they email.

There is a configuration button with all sorts of options on what you want to receive from them via email but nothing about frequency!

Yes Been thinking of Dropping Out
There isn't much I need and I am not buying a Dan Durston tent and the prices really are not that great any more

Did a while back.
I concur, better or same prices elsewhere.

Yeah, once the Durston 2p with solid inner is done, I'll be out.

The AUD/USD exchange rate has really killed it for me for Drop and most US sources.
I agree about the ridiculous frequency of emails, although they are far from unique.
It seems that almost every business with an online presence has some imbecile in the marketing dept. who thinks you'll buy more because they spam you multiple times a day .

You might be waiting a fair while. Seppos don't like the solid inners apparently (mainly for milder weather use perhaps which is the market they are aiming at I reckon) so I believe there is not much ($) impetus.

Interesting. Yet so many of the responses on their blurb were requests for solid inners.

One way to cope with multiple marketing emails from companies that you still wish to subscribe to is to get another gmail address that is only used for marketing sign ups and only check it when you feel like doing so.

Most recent thing said by Dan around this I read was he couldn't/was struggling to convince the marketing people. I think you have a fair dinkum bloke up against the marketers and a small time operation so far. Once this gets in full swing I reckon they will just continually roll off the production line about three to four times a year to maintain the cachet.
I'm sure US 'casual backpackers' are their prime market, especially just now -they get far fewer holidays compared to us as you probably know, so they only 'backpack' in the fine/warm months-no need for a solid inner. This is where the money is-REI as Massdrop/Massdrop as REI.
The calls for the solid inner I reckon are mainly from the harder core Americans/Europeans(Brits especially) and us-none of whom is their target market at the moment.
Unfortunately it seems Dan's been metaphorically contractually muzzled of late. I think the economy of the matter has become less tenuous.
If you are willing to wait you'll likely get what you want(?) -and it will probably be excellent but I reckon you'll be waiting for the eagle to land for a while.
Didn't he originally say end of this year -yankee winter? They haven't even launched properly the current one. It will be interesting to follow.
Massdrop people are even sending out wee tendrils on a DCF model!

MassDrop were OK. I didn't realise the change in name meant they were signalling what would happen to their quality and usefulness.

Log on to drop and uncheck all the email subscriptions. I never get emails for them unless I buy something and that's virtually never now because nothing I'm interested in is shipped to Australia.

Pretty much a waste of time these days.

I used to find that 1 in 20 things were interesting enough to have a look.
It’s now 1 in 50 at best.

I don't think it is that high a ratio myself

This is what I have done now. I would have preferred a weekly summary mail but seems they don't have that.

One other thing that annoyed me.. that the emails sent to members didn't include prices. Needing to log on was a annoying waste of time.. especially if checking during lunch break etc.
