Yes - this is evening at Lake Explorer - looking along it towards Ironstone and 40 Lakes Peak.

You're as bad as me eggs, it makes it hard to post a mystery photo if you've already told everyone about it!

OK, I'm out for the evening, the cloud makes this one a bit ambiguous, so here's a clue, and I will make someone a proxy.
It's in a park I visit frequently less than 2hrs from Hobart, taken from the saddle below a range...

No it's not from near Eves peak I had the same thought, but it just looks too rugged...

I was mainly shooting from up there for the pose for that photo, which I ended up using on my banner on my home page.
Nearly every photo I take is on the tripod, what's the point in carrying nearly 2 kg's of tripod & ballhead if I'm not going to use it, eh?

Originally I had thought it may be the Tarn Shelf from the ridge to Mt Bridges, but couldn't place all that dolerite rock in the foreground. But now you mention a hut then perhaps that is where it is.

Very close Peter, but Tarn Shelf is not in the picture - it's not far away though.

Indeed I was looking across to K-Col from the high point of the saddle below the Rodway Range - thigh deep snow and really cool swirling clouds on this day.
I was hoping to get across to Field West but turned back at this point because of the snow.

It is hot out in garden, so I am glad not to be bushwalking today. Have checked through some photos making sure that it would not be easy to identify the spot, and came up with this one.

The prominent peak on the right does not have an individual name but the higher one, on far left that is just showing an edge, does have name; see if you can guess:
1 the name of the national park
2 give a rough idea from where the photo is taken
3 perhaps come up with the named peak

Well it has been 4 hours and no guesses yet. So a clue; it is at a park on the very eastern side of Tas.

So that narrows it down to Mt William Nat park, Freycinet Nat park, Douglas Apsley Nat park, Maria Island/Schouten Island or the Tasman Peninsula??

I reckon it may be in Freycinet N.P.

Yes Freycinet it is. And there is only one side of the peninsula that has hills and ridges like this. So can someone pinpoint it bit closer?

Ok, the peak partly showing on left is not Mt Freycinet but it is close to it. The view is looking north north west. So perhaps you can tell me the name of the bluff near where the photo was taken.

Patience, Peter - hasn't been 24 hours yet.

I reckon SueoftheSouth did very well to suggest Freycinet.
Your following comments pretty well give the name of the mountain away - though it is interesting that the granite of that area is not really obvious in the photo.
I am sure angles and lighting have a major effect.

Then you narrow it down to a Bluff - where it appears there are only 2 Bluffs on the east side.
Then the peak is not Freycinet (which implies it must be Mt Graham - as does the ridgeline) - so probably the northern Bluff = Gates Bluff.

Sueofthesouth had very good cause to know that it was Freycinet. Yes you are right on all accounts. I thought you might deduce where it was eggs. For a different view of the area from Gates Bluff have a look at this album.

Maybe Barn Bluff, looks familiar, but don't a lot of dolerite mountains!

Definitely in the reserve.
A lot lower than Barn Bluff but if I looked the other way ...

There is a faint pad along the ridge - wish I had tried to figure it out at the time, but we turned back.
Its not very far away from a very popular area - but few venture to this particular spot.

I haven't been to the top of Cradle since I was 12 or 13;
maybe looking back towards Smithies Peak?

edit. strike that last guess as it is not much lower than Barn?

Well you are on the right mountain.

The place where the photo was taken is on the path less trod. And the pad continues to the top of the peak ahead.
The view the other way has rock towering way above this level!
