G'day all
Due to the potential fire threat to Mt Field, all access to the park has been shut for the day (Wed). We will review the situation this evening and will update as things progress.
Cheers

what an odd thing to do... do yo mean the potential for a fire to be started or for fires in the area entering the park?

Same thing happens all the time up here now Nuts. On days of total fire ban and/or extreme fire danger or greater it's now common practice to close all walking tracks. And possibly entire reserves in some cases.

I believe the fire at Wayatinah is sending ash up to 4 kilometres away starting spot fires. Florentine road is closed, and Mt field is only a fairly short distance from Wayatinah.
Westerway is excperiencing lots of smoke and ash and this is below the Mt Field area. It wouldnt take much for part of the park to go up at the moment!
Especially with this wind thats just picked up.....

Just hope the rain comes tomorrow and Friday as forecast.

G'day all
The lower area of Mt Field has now re-open. The Lake Dobson Rd, past the Tall Trees carpark is still closed, meaning no access to the Alpine area at present.
The Wayatinah fires are currently just north of the park boundary. We were certainly within the predicted spotting distance of this fire.
Will keep you posted.
Cheers
