Styx road, You'll need to ring forestry and ask for a key, as its off track we cant discuss details publically. Yes this IS a bushwalking site, but them be the rules.....

PM me if you want more info

This depends on the sensitivity of the area. Eg, if posting details of a route here would cause a lot more people to use that route, and this would cause the location to become degraded by overuse, then that would be against the rules of the forums. If the route is not in a sensitive area, then there's no problem posting details of it here.

How to judge what is this sensitive is difficult of course, so the rule is open to interpretation.

If the area is deemed to be too sensitive, it is still OK to discuss it without great detail of access, coordinates, etc. Those would have to be kept to private messages.

I just thought I'd clarify.

NIK, Perhaps the Parks walking track classification may help in this?
It quite clearly places individual tracks (and all 'routes') into categories in an Attempt to limit access to more sensitive areas.
I have a hard copy of the preamble and long list of individual tracks, though It's probably online somewhere?
Makes interesting reading when you compare it to the promotion thats actually happening (from guide book editors And Others...)

Hi Folks,

Mount Jubilee and the Jubilee Ranges would all be considered off track walking so its unlikely to have a track classification. I suspect its an area not even mentioned in the WHA track strategy.

Documents are here - http://www.wyatt-family.com/phil/parks.htm

Although I have had intentions of going there for many years, it keeps getting knocked down by a more desirable place; One day maybe.
Anyway some friends have been there and, from what I recall, it is probably not a sensitive area vegetation wise. It is a comparatively low range and has a bit of button grass on top.

Me & a friend did Mt Jubilee & the high point of the Jubilee Range in a (suprisingly) quick 6.5 houts return mid last yer. There is a tagged route starting at the road (partial pad in sections) half of the way to Mt Jubilee, open button grass plains from there. PM me if you want additional details. Fantastic views of the Anne Range, Weld Range & Snowy Ranges from the summit, which as usual, is at the far (southern) end of the range.
Cheers.

A quick look at GE provides some useful background for route planning. I am not surprised that the trip was completed in a day.

Back in Dec 83 I was on a trip to the Jubilee Range. We first visited the Snowy Range (traversed to the northern peaks on a day walk). I remember we did have a white xmas - snow on xmas day - then down and over a saddle onto the Jubilee Range. Some scrub on the way - but not too bad - and some interesting limestone (or dolomite?) caves in the saddle - I remember lots of dolines and sinkholes. The Jubilee Range itself was not too interesting. There was a small "alpine area" ( - yes small - only one pandanni - nothing else!) - otherwise open button grass tops. We the headed down to the Weld River - via a ridge (and horizontal scrub) - then down to the river. We then went to the Weld Arch and out via a track that had just been cut that led to roads near Frodshams Pass. I think we were out about 6 days.

Went up here today! Pretty easy, a little scrubby at the start but really nothing to write home about!
Once on top it was 2.7k's along the range to the high point! Mt Jubilee has a rather large cairn on it and not a bad little peak for the non peak baggers!!

You're getting some nice photos recently Mark.

I presume this approach is from the North and not via the sinkholes Dave mentions?
Looks a bit easier than the Thumbs

Thankyou very much Brian, I sincerely appretiate you saying so :)
Yes this approach was from the new forestry roads almost due North of Mt Jubilee! Tags lead for about 1km then stop, it's really quite open and easy though! Much much easier than Thumbs! Same points too...

EDIT- Mt Anne looks nice huh, also can you see Fedders sticking up in the distance??

The road? It goes further than is marked on the 1:25's. I dont like nor trust THE LIST, so I never use it. It's not a good track, nor does it go far. Should almost be treated as an off track walk.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. The road is a good 8km from Mt. Jubillee on the map which didnt sound right. I was thinking this would be a good choice to build some more experience? and theres still a fair amount of snow and this is low lying....

You wont find any snow up there. Maybe the odd patch. It's too low.

Well yeh the road goes to about 2-3 k's from Mt Jubilee now, the high point of the range is a further 2 k's past Mt Jubilee. The tags take you to within about 1k of Mt Jubilee. From there it's make your own way.

Exactly. I meant it was low lying so no snow troubles, other wise I had Picton on the cards.

Do you think you could spare your gps route from that walk?

If you dont have a gps to follow your track back, probably pretty difficult. You'll probably pick them up along the way somewhere.
