TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Zorali - Highlands 2

Tue 29 Sep, 2020 2:56 pm

Hi All,

First time poster. I'm looking to invest in a tent suitable for Tasmanian conditions and im also looking to support Australian Companies. I have had a look at the Zorali Highlands 2 tent and am interested. I have bought clothing products from Zorali previously and they are of high quality. I'm just wondering if anyone has bought on previously and could provide a review? Or if anyone could recommend a good 2p 3 seasons tent from a local company.

Cheers,

Yeah, but they grow veggies in the garden at their factory...

I don't own one but from first glance it seems to be quite a heavy at 2.8kg. Will you be using for one person or two?

They do say minimum trail weight is 2.3kg but I'm not sure what that includes. Still a bit on the heavy side for a 3 season tent.

For Tassie or nz weather I prefer a tent that can be quickly set up if bad weather hits quickly.

Looking at the setup video of the zorali it pitches inner first and there seems to be alot of poles to fit into place before the fly can be attached.

I'm not that experienced with snow camping but to me that flattish roof may not go well with snow load.(should you happen to get caught out and it snows) Others may have a more informed opinion.

Having said that it does look like a palace with lots of space, so given the right conditions it could be a very comfortable tent to spend a day or a week in.

Have a look at wilderness equipment second arrow tents for Aussie owned and well suited to NZ and Tassie weather. Unfortunately quite a bit more expensive.

Are there any Australian bushwalking tent makers left that still manufacturer onshore though?

Edit. Disregard I see what your saying now. They appear to be retailing and branding tents from a Chinese tent manufacturer. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that. They seem to be reasonably open that there not making gear for expeditions. https://www.zorali.com/pages/our-story

tobyjackson- I think you could get something much the same but lighter in a Naturehike tent either rebranded locally by Novapro eg, https://novaprosports.com.au/products/m ... ed-edition) or direct from overseas which will give more variety.

If it is for one don't buy it as it is too heavy and too bulky. Between two you won't regret the livability but sooner or later you will want something lighter.

I recently replaced my cheap 2p with an X-Mid (for hiking with two).

There is at least one very similar design but sold using different materials .
This version has 3 spreader poles at the top instead of two , otherwise it is very similar
