You can use a flame to burn off the hairs. Haven't tried it myself. Here is a video:

...just using a cigarette lighter. But perhaps push a stick into it and twirl over an open fire?

I've only been to Sundown once, and it was the hottest, driest experience I'd had outside of the Channel Country. The waterhole was almost empty and very smelly, so I didn't get a swim. Between that and being charged at by a massive, cranky kangaroo it wasn't the best experience, but given these photos I'd be happy to give it another crack while the conditions are good!
