Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Wed 03 Mar, 2010 3:53 pm

not from pine valley hut, but further down the valley? (i hope)

Yep, Mt Gould.
Not Pine Valley, but yes - further down the valley...
Next guess should get it, I'm off until the morning so when you get it over to you -
should be obvious where I am from the angle of Gould & the other range in the background.

You'll be right about Mt Gould - but you can see the Guardians looming in the left gloom - so not Pine Valley.

It lines up virtually with Narcissus Hut - so I will suggest just along the track west from Narcissus

Yep, spot on eggs (frenchy - you were getting so close!).
Taken from just past the toilet block track west of Narcissus.
Hoping for this sort of snow cover again this year :D
Over to you eggs...

Ok, I'll start the guessing.
From the perspective of the mountains you appear to be NE of the Walls area?
Maybe around Long Tarns somewhere?

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 9:55 am

Further out than Long Tarns.
Spot is a little non-descript though there are named features around. I will be happy with the name of the lake I am approaching.

if your futher out than long tarns is it little throne or blue peaks region, its been a long time since i was in that region so im only really guessing

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

This could be a lot of guesses then???
Lake Gwendy?

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 10:15 am

Lucky for you all, there are relatively few named lakes in this area, though there are an awful lot of lakes.

Somewhere between Gwendy and Little Throne - you can't see the walls from Little Throne, though Blue Peaks might get a glimpse past Turrana Bluff? (Haven't been there, but SoB would know)

From near Lake Lexie perhaps?
Been through the Walls but relying on thelist maps for this area i'm afraid

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 12:25 pm

Yes stu - we were passing the gap below Turrana heights heading towards Lake Lexie.
If you check my photo report out you can see the cliffs at the back from a closer vantage point.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 2:22 pm

nope not the sentinels

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 2:41 pm

Is that Adamsons Peak & The Calf in the distance?
Trying to gather clues for others to follow here...

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 2:50 pm

There's not a lot in this one stu.
The distant peak looks like is has an interesting profile, but from the lie of the land I don't think it is very high and therefore probably will not be that memorable.
Of more interest is that we are on a dolerite peak with a dramatic edge to it, and the nearest range has a few exposed rock faces.
So which dramatic dolerite peaks look out over a wild and gullied but relatively low area?

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 2:51 pm

nope (to adamsons peak), different area of the state

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 2:54 pm

Could be the NE somewhere then, tho can't see any of the usual logging scars...

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 4:05 pm

well im about to head off for the day, i dont want to give away to many clues just yet so good luck

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 04 Mar, 2010 4:24 pm

I am thinking that untouched heavy forested might imply somewhere ranging from Wylds Craig through the King Williams or a cliff edge overlooking an area near Tarraleah?
The lack of background could be hiding some larger ranges.

The bushes up on top make me think this might be a flat topped peak with a cliff edge?

your getting closer eggs (but still a little way off) and it certainly is a flat top.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Fri 05 Mar, 2010 4:06 pm

no further guesses? hope you all have a good weekend. the mountain in the background is an Abel ( i think, i need to get on google to earth to confirm what mountain it is in the background).

Someone needs to tell Frenchie if he's away for long periods at a time he can allocate a regular user to act as proxy for him in the game so as not to slow it down too much........

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Sat 06 Mar, 2010 2:31 pm

well there havent been any guesses in this time to reply to. eggs has been the closest so far

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Sat 06 Mar, 2010 3:52 pm

Mtn in the bg looks a bit like Mt Wright if taken from Mt Field, but the foreground is all wrong i.e. there are trees
The foreground hills etc remind me of the country to the west of the Denison's but I can't match any of the features
I'm stumped, how's about a clue???

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Sat 06 Mar, 2010 8:08 pm

its north of eggs guess and the mountain in the background is quartzite

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Sat 06 Mar, 2010 8:25 pm

Not sure about quartzite - since some have recently suggested the west coast range conglomerate is quartzite, but assuming that is what is meant, I thought when I first saw this that the shape was Mt Jukes - with the pyramid of Mt Huxley to its right.

But I know Lake Burbury lies next to it. If it was Mt Jukes, then there must be a lot of zoom to compress the valley.
And a Flat dolerite mountain would probably place you on Eldon Bluff looking south west.

[Edit - no change to where he is (Eldon Bluff) - but looking again - it is more likely to be Mt Owen in the distance - with Mt Lyall to its right - and the veiled shape of Sedgewick further right again.]
