I can see a new game arising from this - as in "where is [person/tent]"
I have put a few with that element in them - eg http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=2307&p=21369&hilit=tasadm#p21369
Where curiously enough Tasadam picked the "where is he", but not the "Where am I?"

But for now, do I take this diversion as a desire for clues?

Well done, I suspect.
Sorry eggs, in a silly mood tonight.

Tasadam - it appears you were not the only one. Been a longgg weekend...

Yes robl.

This was late afternoon heading to Scott-Kilvert hut - next to the river running between Flynn's Tarn and Lake Rodway

Might be the Deloraine racecourse Rob. Can just make out a live brush hurdle maybe?

GerryDuke is correct.
I am scraping to find suitable pics. I must scan some.

Here's an easy one to keep the game going.

That pencil pine looks like the one on the Overland Track, I remember seeing it one morning, but where? Was it the 2nd day, we'd not long left Waterfall Valley and were heading for Windermere...
Oh, hang on, what's that building doing behind the dead one on the right, I don't remember that...
I really shouldn't play this game without my image database at hand.

I "saw" that building too, but without the ability to drill down into the photo I am not convinced it is a building :?

Lady Lake?

I suspect if it isn't the OLT it could well be in that general area (Daisy / Ironstone etc), it's got "that look". But I cannot place the hut (if it is a hut) and you cannot see Lady Lake hut from Lady Lake from memory, plus it looks different.

Eggs I use "control +" to zoom in then squint, though this computer is hooked up to a 40 inch HD screen at the moment. Have to scroll right on the bottom of the image, when you zoom in too much the image starts to shrink on the side and a scroll bar appears beneath.

Actually Lady Lake is pronbably right, I forgot it's usually possible to cheat with Gerry's pics.
This page http://www.touringtasmania.info/lady_lake_gallery.htm shows this image http://www.touringtasmania.info/images/ ... KE-186.jpg and I reckon you'll find the tree in foreground left is the same one in the photo in question.

The hut has been re-built since our first visit in 2002
So it might be a hut and this image might be pre-"new hut"?

Yes - norts will have it.

You are definitely right tasadam [and I have actually checked out some of Gerry's online pictures before. ]
His Lady Lake gallery shot of the ridge with Mother Cummings behind has an exact match for the rock patterns.

hmm - a nice moody photo.
It is consistent with the current level of game interest to let it run for a few days, but the skyline is very familiar. (Mt Anne)
And some people say a quick game is a good one, and you probably don't want to be hanging around the site waiting for a guess.

So I will say you are on the early part of Moraine A - about where the arrow is..

oops - forgot about different time zones..

Back on mine - the hut is just to the right of the pool - about 50 metres. It was a clear winters day but the water was still frozen at about 2PM. I have been out - thanks Adam for following up for me! Well researched as usual

So I presume the hut we 'saw" was just a rock.

Anyway - pretty confident I have the spot for norts - so here is one with a "where is wally" flavour as well.

"Where am I" and "where is he"?

It looks like what the top of Frenchmans might look like.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Wed 07 Apr, 2010 7:59 pm

Or is it La Perouse, it looks familiar though. He is just left of the back peak, if it's La Perouse are you on The Cockscomb? Just stabbing in the dark really!

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Sorry Taurë-rana - been away.

First guess is correct - it is Frenchman's Cap.
Technical answer is looking back to the Cap while skirting the Lions Head - all the rock is white quartzite.
La Perouse is a yellowish rock - quite remarkable in its thin sheets though.

You can go next.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

That was my first thought, but then I got confused trying to work out where it was taken from - when I went up Frenchmans we had beautiful sunshine, but cloud below so couldn't see what was around us. Now I'd better find a photo.

Just back on that Lady Lake shot... no you were correct the first time. That's not a rock, nor is it the Lady Lake Hut. It is the toilet shelter. :-)

Nick

thanks for the clarification. It is hard to tell some regular shapes when the picture has restrictive resolution.

Taurë-rana

You are certainly picking up Mark's tell-tail habits - Placing a photo in the comp over a signature with your latest exploits on it.

I am really looking forward to more photos from this area though. [PS - this does not properly answer the "where am I"]
Did you know that a very early photo in this comp shows a view of where you were ?

You're right about where I am, and it's probably a bit hard to describe it exactly. What am I looking at?

About the signature, I was feeling jealous of Mark's constantly changing peaks but then I thought that my last one was a place he hadn't been so decided to do it too.

Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Thu 08 Apr, 2010 12:30 pm

Yeh - its OK to show Mark somewhere he hasn't been....
You should try anywhere along the OT

Anyway - with all those unnamed (on the LIST at least) lakes and mountains around that area, the best I can say is the peak at back left is Mt Curly & the peak at back right is Conical Mountain
PS - and the distant plateau should be the King William Range

[PPS - for others looking at this - the view is over an unnamed lake off a western ridge she diverted onto when coming back from Pokana Peak on her recent trip]

I actually have a bit of a problem with the OT as well, in spite of it being the Leighland brothers walking the OT that inspired me to bushwalk.

Only if your left and right is different from mine  but i think you're close enough.
