Photo comp display size increase from 800px?

Is it possible to increase the Photo Comp display size?

I know the upload size got increased from 5mb to 10mb, which is great.

However, the photos are then downsized to 800px on the long side for display, which is tiny! Even crappy smartphones currently display at 1080px or more on the narrow side!

It's particularly an issue for panoramas, where the short side can get downsized to < 400px

For example, viewtopic.php?f=22&t=31429 has a photo of mine (4 - Wanganderry Sunset) which has been resized to 800px x 334px. The photo was originally submitted at 2000px x 837px.

If I upload this test image (3719 x 2976 42.2 MB 360p/inch) http://www.kennethleegallery.com/images/tech/4800test.jpg
The image has been reduced to 800 x 640 360p/inch. If I click on the image, it opens up the image and it's the same image that was uploaded!

It seems the comp photos are most likely saved on the server in a larger size, but only the 800px version is shown, you can't click on the image to see the larger version in the comp, like you can here.

As per my previous post, which I have edited, seems like there is a flag that stops people viewing the larger image

Yes it is frustrating. Unfortunately the photo comp display quality is never close to the actual image no matter the diligence of the photographers.

Yeah I really need to do something about this hey.
Yes we store the original image, so it is technically possible.
I do need to do some updates to the software for other reasons (upgrade paths for the forum software mainly).
I can do this at the same time.

1) click to see the original image
2) make the smaller images look more like the original (deal with compression issues)
Any other features/tweaks?

(I am travelling in the NT atm, probably another month, so the internet connection is a bit all over the place. I will attempt if I can but might need to wait till I am back in the big smoke.

Hey Matt, Thank you for looking at this. My thoughts are along the lines of what already happens for the photo guessing games.
That seems to preserve the images, mostly, and you can often click for a larger view (may depend on how the member submitted the image).
Can the same code be re-used?

Yes I had a look at the code and I think it can be tweaked to do that for all future comps.
basically, the way the system works is that it collects all photo entries then a script creates the post (and the poll) when the comp time closes. So I can change the way it makes the post to add a href link to make the current image clickable - to link to the full size image. So the behaviour and code should be the same with other images like in the game. (do love that game).
