A bit too far north and I'm less close to the west coast.
Some big mountains here.

Googling will help finding this location. As the sign says:
"This building is famous for its frieze of monkeys that teach how to lead an ideal life. One of the 8 panels teaches children to avoid trouble in life, to "See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil"."

The stable of the sacred horse at Nikko, Japan?
Tue 11 Jul, 2023 9:26 am
Correct, John. I visited as part of a walk with my bushwalking club a few years ago. Lovely to combine great walking with quirky culture.

Thanks Tyreless. We haven't made it to Japan but have many good reports. 21 y.o. nephew was there recently. A lot of millennial stuff but he enjoyed My Fuji and wants to return for snowboarding/skiing.
I'm away this week but here's an easy one. Town in a national park, Canada:

By unusual means think, not by car, not flying, not on an animal, and only a masochist would want to walk 1km in elevation gain to get there from the main road...
Wed 12 Jul, 2023 7:11 pm
I suspect it's Chandragiri temple, and that you got there by taking the cable car.
Wed 12 Jul, 2023 9:56 pm
You are right with the cable car but about 130 kms out for the temple. Go west young man!!
Keep trying you're on the right track.
Between the 2 main cities.
I visited it on the way back from Ghorka to KTM.

Must be too obtuse.
It's Manakamana Temple.
Anyone can go next.

Correct Last. Not quite near the base of it but not too far away, maybe 40 km or so.
