Thanks for some recognisable landmarks.
At first, I thought Olympus/Byron/Cuvier area, but a closer look at the angles suggests you're further west, so maybe Pyramid Peak?

I was on a long walk. This view was towards the end of it.

No Abels were involved in the entire walk.

I could see the POWs during lot of this walk, but there is some significant water in between that range and this.

Ok, so it sounds like Diamond isn't the peak you mentioned. Probably not Cuvier or Adamson. I gave up at the Ds.

More than halfway to right initial. Persevere! The map covers an area a long way from the relevant peak, which is across a valley and not the closest to me.

Not sure about Greycap, but you're probably right about Frankland. I know where it was, but still trying to work out the direction in which I'm looking.
