Apologies, I did indeed go AWOL, although I'm not sure to whom we should apply for permission to bugger off for a while ...
bluewombat wrote:Wild guess, Mt Maud
No, but not a million miles from the actual place.
I might reinstate this one next time I get a go.

The pic seems to line up with the the view you'd get from somewhere near the Orion Lakes Maybe standing on the high point between the largest Orion Lake and Lake Pallas
Thu 14 Dec, 2023 2:14 pm
Not there. It's closer to the mountains in the background than that.

The Gatepost?

I won't be able to respond over the next few days so will give it to Wobbly as the closest. It is between Lake Riengeena and Rim Lake on the Traveller Range

We’re you on Mt Weld looking towards Snowy North?
Mon 18 Dec, 2023 2:57 pm
Long way from there.

The rock on the distant ridges looks like dolerite, while that on the closer ground looks more like quartzite or conglomerate.
Which doesn't help me much ...

You are correct and it should help you. There are only so many places you look from one to another.

Thanks for the clues. I feel a tad guilty about some general inside info, but after 3 days that's probably OK. It matches my photo from... Tahune hut?
Mon 18 Dec, 2023 5:51 pm
Close enough Torty. I'm near Artichoke Valley.
Mon 18 Dec, 2023 6:22 pm
Thanks, Last. And nnw. I really must get around to fixing the date on my camera. Being out by about 14 hours (or something) messes with my head when i try to work out what time of day I was where.
