I'm going for a walk in the next couple of days so crack on.

I can't help thinking I know this spot but I'm struggling with it. Is it on The Gib (Mt Gibraltar)?

Correct John. It is, in fact, Mt Gibraltar Park.

I've walked all over The Gib a couple of times but always via the track up through the old quarry site.
I forgot that you can basically drive to the summit and explore from there. Only seen that view maybe once.

Never been there but hoping to spend time in SA this winter, bushwalking and taking photos. Back to NSW I'm afraid

You look to be on Kangaroo Ridge looking towards North Rams Head, Kosci walkway etc.
Pretty sure I've visited that same small tarn.

Got it in one. Not sure if I'm on Kangaroo Ridge, but I am on the Kozi walkway, just next to the bridge that crosses the Snowy River.

Thanks, that is very generous. Very loosely speaking Kangaroo Ridge at that point is roughly parallel, probably about 0.5 to 1 km to the left of your location, and meanders between Mt Stilwell and the Kosci lookout. At least that's my opinion after walking the length of it a couple of times; the map definition is less precise. Both spots have similar views in that direction.

Can't help but think that's overlooking the old Crackenback River, now the Thredbo River, so I'm guessing from the top of Kangaroo Ridge

I'll repay your generosity, that's close enough. I'm on North Rams Head looking back along a fair chunk of Kangaroo Ridge, and the Thredbo River valley.
A bit cheeky, a not quite reverse view (almost) to your previous shot.

Rams Head North is one of my favourite places. I was tempted to post another but instead, another from NSW on a cold morning

A spot I've skirted around going elsewhere, it does look chilly.

Correct. Something of an out of body experience walking through a snow storm on 27th December 2004 having just driven from the Sydney region where bushfires were raging in 35 degree temperatures.
