73 g Sea to Summit UL day pack

I picked this little beauty up the other day, I think it is around twenty liters volume, the pack only weighs 73 grams and folds up in its own bag to a very small volume.

It has been suggested to me that it would make a very good dual use stuff sack which then I would remove the stuff sack and attachment point which would reduce the weight even more.

I have not used this pack yet, it is a possibility that I could use it for an overnight walk.

My wife nearly bought me one of them on Saturday, when she was Christmas shopping! Maybe she still will. They're a good idea. I had one similar when I was a kid, that packed up not quite as small, but close to it.

bought one a month or so ago & have done a couple of day trips with it. Fits just about everything I'd need. Waist strap or chest clip would be useful. I'll be taking on the OT with me as a short trip pack when I leave my main pack behind.

Just read my post again and I did take this on the OT with me and will be taking it on many more trips as well. Though it could do with a chest strap I used a thin rope for that which worked well. I took it up all side trips and other excursions. It easily held my bulky jacket, DSLR, 1.5L water and some food and emergency gear.

Thinking about upgrading to the new model but will always travel with this extra pack.

I have been considering another Sea to Summit one too, since it has a rollable top for extra water resistance -> http://www.seatosummit.com.au/showdetai ... ode=AUSWDP
The weights for that second one is not on the site but some other site said it was in the vicinity of 90 grams. Anyhow, does anyone have one and can they recommend it? OR does anyone have other suggestions?

Cuben Fiber, weighing in at 34 grams. I also reckon Chris (or Joe even at Zpacks) would make one with a roll-top, dry-bag type closure out of CF too, seam-taped....sweet. Probably all in under 50grams.

Christmas is coming! Always room for another toy.

I am quite happy with my little S2S pack, but I only use it when fishing in Summer and only carry a rain jacket, some food and fishing gear, I find it to small for day walks or side walks and prefer my 25l Golite Ion which has a better wast and a chest strap but is a lot heavier.

I do like the very small size of the S2S pack.

Gee whiz... not sure...Horses for courses of course. They would perhaps annoy me after a little while, who knows. I have read from posts on other forums that they are comfortable enough, and the shoulder straps are strong enough...for what their intended purpose is.

Anyways, the StS bag looks like a ripper too.

Well I took mine on the OT a couple of years back and have used them a few times since that trip. I've also taken it on 14day remote expeditions into the Kimberley and a few others as well.

I highly recommend having one of these, they are indispensable and very light.

What I would use it for:
side tracks where you want to pack down and explore and carry some light gear, food and water.
longer expeditions where at anytime you will want a light pack around camp

What I wouldn't use it for:
As a day pack for a whole day hike - you really need something that can be comfortable all day.
In places you expect the contents to remain dry. S2S have an Ultrasil Drypack for that.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it goes alright. I think I will get the s2s one with the rollable top. I only want it for shorter side trips, but want it to at least hold a rain jacket, water bottle, food, and swap the slr and rain-jacket if it rains.

Those StS ones with the roll top closure are great.

I had a great run with mine in NZ and it doubled as a drybag for some items in my main pack. The straps end up a little thin/narrow under load as there just silnylon with no padding so you don't want too much in there.
Rain gear, water, camera, day food and insulator jacket in this little pack worked well.
I carry a small piece of 8mm ccf for a seat anyway (about 10"x14") and that worked a treat as a small back panel in the StS pack as it stiffened it up a little and made any pointy objects in there less obtrusive.

You will sweat a bit under the pack though as they don't breath a whisp due to the waterproof fabric.
