Making powdered egg interesting

Fri 03 Sep, 2010 12:29 pm

I've just bought a canister of powdered egg in my local Coles. Being extremely sick of porridge and cereal on bushwalks I had visions of exciting scrambled eggs. Anyway does anyone have any tried and tested ways to add flavour and interest to reconstituted powdered eggs. Lightweight and longlife ideas most welcome.

Thanks

have ya bought/seen the food to go e-book yet?

goes well with a snaploc bag DIY pancake mix... i add a little syrup/ honey into the bag with the dry mix too...
i have made an omlette mix this way too with dried peas n corn, peppers etc....
soak it while you sleep.... i use a wide neck ecotanka bottle now for rehydrating stuff on the go for lunches etc.... just the snaploc bag in the billy (in case it leaks) if not moving around (ie at camp).

just as well i walk... food n sleep are 2 of my favorite "G Rated" hobbies! - combine them = heaven!

I make a bush scramble/bacon n egg mix. I get a single serve Spam slice (getting hard to find now though) and dice it. I mix this with reconstituted egg mix and fry in a little olive oil. Makes a great breakfast. Just a little too heavy for regular ; as a treat it's ace ! Regards, CV

Gee, I haven't seen one of those single serves of SPAM in a few years. Were a favourite or mine for a while.
Would like to source them again.

Spam tends to divide people into three groups - those who love it, those who hate it and those who refuse to find out.

Hey Enduro - haven't seen them either. I've been looking - if I find any I'll PM you. I guess if you were going to have it early in the trip you could freeze some - then again freeze some real bacon ! Wrapped well ; in spring walking ; should be ok for a day or two ? Regards.

They are not on the shelves of any shops in my area either perhaps we should all contact Hormel Foods and ask them why.
