Yesterday ( Monday) we, along with Tassie Tigger” believed we walked into “The Dell”.
After climbing up to The Stone Hut, from the car park at the end of Quarry Road,
then proceeding up on top of The Stone Hut on about another 30 metres we encountered a track junction.
There are 2 red track markers on a tree and the marker pointing right indicates “The Dell”
After following this track for about 45 minutes we eventually found another track junction.
On an old dead tree are a couple of very weathered signs. One of these signs informed us we had encountered “The Dell Track”.
This track runs roughly along the foot of Basion Bluff. In one direction are Meander Falls and in the other direction is “The Dell”. The sign on the other side of tree indicates it is 11/2 hours back to Quarry Road via The Stone Hut. It took us about 2 hours to reach this point. We then headed off in the direction the sign pointed to The Dell.
After walking about 200 – 250 meters we encountered yet another track junction with some old weathered signs on a dead tree. Here there is also a sign indicating the direction of The Dell. After following a clearly marked track for about 20 minutes over sections scree and through bush we found ourselves in a lovely wooded enclosed hallow at the foot of Basion Bluff.
The climb to the top of Basion Bluff involved about 15 minutes following a track through the bush and up a fairly steep section of scree with the sound of water cascading over rocks under you. The views from the top of the bluff were marvellous. From where we left our car parked at the end of Quarry Road it took us about 7 hours to walk into The Dell and return. The sign at the car park says “The Dell” 5 hours. Obviously we must have been abit slower. This is a walk well worth while doing
