Tasman Coastal Trail

Tue 19 Oct, 2010 9:39 pm

Hi All,

I'm heading down to Tasmania for a month in mid-November to do some walking. I'm driving down from Brisbane so will have my own car.

One of the walks I'm looking to do is the Tasman Coastal Trail. I want to try and follow this route: Devils Kitchen --> Fortescue Bay --> Wughalle Falls (via Cape Hauy) --> Perdition Ponds --> Fortescue Bay.

My problem is where I leave my car (either Devils Kitchen or Fortescue Bay) and how I get back to either the start or end of the walk. Public transport options seem limited to say the least! Alternatively, I'm considering just doing a circuit from Fortescue Bay and cutting out the first leg.

Does anyone have any advice on transport? I'm certainly open to suggestions on the circuit idea and any tips on structuring the walk better.

Thanks in advance!

I should add I have found these two services:

http://www.outdoortasmania.com.au/trans ... vices.html
http://twe.travel/05_transport/01.html

The later seems to offer the best option to date. I could leave the car in Hobart and get a trip in and out. But $76 each way per person (there are two of us) makes for an expensive first leg of the walk that I could just skip...

I wonder if there are any taxis on the peninsula, thinking you could leave the car at the end point then get a lift to the starting point.

They are a pretty tight-knit and friendly group down there.

I'd call the boat tour place, the one that does both Bruny Island and TP, and ask if there was a staff member interested in making a bit of extra $$$ by doing a car shuffle. Maybe try the general store in Port Arthur.

Yes, these services are usually expensive unless you can team up with others going the same way. It may be worth asking if they have anyone already booked. I used http://www.outdoortasmania.com.au/trans ... vices.html a couple of years ago for a WOJ trip and was very happy with them. Still not cheap but we managed to share with others going elsewhere which reduced the cost significantly.

Thanks all for the comments.

Tasadam's comments about a taxi prompted more research and I managed to find these guys: http://hobartmaxiconnect.com.au/index/1 ... i-Connect/

They'll do the run back from Fortescue Bay to Devils Kitchen for $70 for 2 people. Sorted!

Hi all. I've noticed that transport seems to be a problem on the Tasman Peninsula, so I would like to make you aware of our service, Tasman Taxis and Minibus. I've placed an advert in the Specials, Discounts, Adverts forum stating the following -
