G'day leppy,
Used them for years with my Scouts they are edible for one night with extras like a nice Sirlion Steak (gees they ate well) could not recommended them for multi day tucker however

P.S. we used the Trangia 25 System with the original simple gas conversion three Scouts to a set up.

After all the differing opinions I can see that I have to try them for myself, just to make sure. I have been reticent because I have talked myself into the fact that they will taste like poo.... I am leaning towards buying a dehydrator, but then I ask myself how often will I use It. But then , whats another $150- $180 after spending so much on getting the kit together. Its a tough life being a Schizo, just ask me or myself or my wife.

you can get one new delivered to your door for $60 off ebay.... thats just about paid for itself after a weeks walk worth of meals....

Yes it is interesting when I check out some of my older gear and remember when and where I last use it and wonder if I will ever stop buying ,looking at a OP WBA 60lt pack to see if I can ease the burden on my knees

yep, all the time, we just add tuna and surprise peas to make "tuna casserole" (we use Alfredo)
or
There is quite a nice "Chicken curry" thingy, we add chopped up smoked chicken breast, works well even if the chicken is a bit heavy
or
Get a rice type dish (any one will work, they basically taste the same) and add salami

We usually get the "family" size for the two of us.

The NZ made Backcountry freeze-dry is a staple inclusion in my pack.

Less impressive is the ACT-produced Tinderry Tucker: the Ratatouille and pasta (a huge dish it is, too) is just soooooo bland and unserviceable, resisting spicing up with salt, pepper, nutmeg, chilli, sherry or anything else. So I'm stuck on the NZ grub for now: roast lamb, roast chicken, nasi goreng and the novel astronaut icecream (not a NZ job) all put a smile on my dial, especially the quick, simple clean up.

Pasta shells with pink salmon with a small snaplock bag of sauce is also a favourite. Note that an empty salmon tin will attract a Heinz variety of wild animals and ants.

TASSAL atlantic salmon with mesculin, dried tomatoes and a serve of coleslaw is a welcome "shake-down" treat for my first day on the track.

At the end of a day of walking and pestered by rain, gale and tide the last thing I want is to be faced with a massive post-dinner clean up. KISS...
