photohiker wrote:This month's Wild Mag (120) has a (shorter) winter Ducane Traverse in it by Cam Walker. Also a good read.
We were quite pleased to know we'd be getting in before the hordes.

Yeah I'd photocopied that arcticle to read during the trip. I don't think it had much of use to us though, as it described a winter traverse. "You will be putting on snow shoes and taking them off endlessly" haha.
And thanks for all the comments everyone.

Another great trip guys - well done.
I have to say I really like this "photo essay" style of trip report. The pics really pull the whole story together and greatly increase the jealousy factor for those of us who haven't been able to get "out there" for a while. That's a good thing for my motivation.
Nice job.

Thanks AC.
It is a good point, should some of these be in the photo gallery???

Yeah I can never get into just written descriptions of trip reports, it's all 'we went up this, camped over there and got rained on lots'.. Of course it's a different story if you are familiar with the area, or are reading it as you are there, but a picture describes..etc.
I thought about posting this in the gallery, I didn't really check the trip reports section until writing this up actually, I could just create a post and link to this one but people will find it eventually

Maybe the Trip report section could be a sub-category of the Gallery rather than Tasmania??

Must have been a great walk, beautiful weather and all.
Well done Nick S and ILUVSWTAS, super photos of a beautiful area and the light and weather gave you the chance to take some rippers. Well done again!!

Thanks very much FF, very kind. It was certainly one of my most memorable trips.

Firstly, fantastic trip report and pics! The hairs still stand on the back of my neck, even after the 8th time that I have read it.
I am curently cooking my last meal (curried sausages), which I will dry tomorrow, for my trip to Tassie on the 22nd of november. On the 23rd I will be doing this very traverse (5 days with a rest day somewhere in the middle). My friend doesn't get me as I plot my own course with hand motions and finger pointing through the photos. Go figure!
This trip report is the most valuable piece of information I will gain for my trip, (as it is up to date). I watch the weather reports everyday now and hope that I have as good as you got; although at this time the long range forecast is not that great on the 25th &26th, but it has been improving over the last few days.
I personally cannot thank you enough for posting it, and if it's okay I may throw a few "pms" your way over the next few days.
Great job!
Ciaran.

Great works guys and fantastic photos. I have been thinking of doing this walk for a while...One quesion I had was: how does this walk compare to the Anne Circuit in terms difficulty and exposure?
Sat 13 Nov, 2010 8:31 pm
Without the side trips to Geryon and Hyperion there is no exposure.
It's hard on the knees as your on rock alot, but otherwise after the initial climb, it isnt TOO difficult. Actually coming off Falling Mtn there was a small section that required some minor scrambling, but it was pretty straight forward, we had alot of ice on the rocks which made it a bit more difficult

Thanks for the info ILSWT... What about including Geryon and Hyperion???
Sat 13 Nov, 2010 8:45 pm
Those 2 peaks are the hardest i've climbed yet. Much more so than Anne. A fair bit of exposure on Geryon, Hyperion just had a couple of tricky climby sections where a fall wouldnt be fatal (maybe) but wouldnt be nice.
