Track recommendation?

Postby Drifting » Sat 11 Dec, 2010 9:04 am

Hi all, I need an EASY and comparatively short hike for a 6yo in the next few weeks, within 1.5 hours of Sheffield. I'd go for Pine Hut, but it's bound to be a bit soggy. Something within the Flat 6km or mildly rugged 3-4 km would be good.

Any ideas?

If we get a week or two of reasonable weather Pine Hut Plain would be dry enough I would think. Nice easy stroll, just depends on the weather.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you need to drink more.

That's on my list. I wanted something sorter for our first walk of the season though. As wimpy as it sounds, maybe taking the ferry up to Narcissus and then walking back to Echo Hut might be an idea.

I had thought Lady Lake as well, but this is a Daddy Pack Mule trip, and I'm not really in the mood for carrying 25-27 kg up that hill, at least not until I've gotten back in the swing of it....lol

How about the Dove lake circuit? Certainly flat, good views.

No place to camp there. I want to take the daughter on an easy, low-stress overnight hike away from the car. We've done one overnighter, but it was last year, and I'd like to ease her back into it.

One of these days I'm going to take a hike backwards on the PCT and turn that stretch into a overnighter for Laura and I.

How about heading up to Lake Mackenzie, then taking the track toward Lake Explorer / Lake nameless? Gets you to the same sort of area as Lady Lake Hut without the big climb.
