TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

What did you get for Christmas?

Tue 04 Jan, 2011 10:56 am

Last year, I got one of those tiny S2S day packs in my Christmas bon-bon.

This year, somebody gave me a 750ml titanium water flask.

Did anyone else get any bushwalking equipment for Christmas this year?

Yup, a heavy and unnecessary torch I don't need, a water bottle that has a really silly lid(oggi?) and a hat that doesn't fit - receipts aren't available so I'm stuck with them :(
Water bottle is semi-useful at least!!! It is however as we all know the thought that counts.

Manged to buy myself a couple of bits'n'bobs though :)

polar heart rate monitor, which will come in handy on longer walks to monitor health.

My ex-girlfriend gave me a very light weight solar powered LED torch that can be clipped onto a pack strap to charge whilst walking...to think that we used to joke about solar powered lights being an Irish invention

I was given a book called Rugged Beyond Imagination it may not be a piece of bushwalking gear but it is related to my bushwalking as it about some of the history of an area that I walking in.

I am finding the book very interesting reading, it is great to read some history about the places that I walk in, some I have been going to for over 40 years.

I did'nt ask for anything (because I don't need anything), but blow me down, My wife and Boys got me a couple of Richard Dawkins books - "The God Delusion" and "The Greatest Show on Earth"- had read them both before but were borrowed from
the library - now I have my very own copies - sweet.

I got maps for my Garmin GPS. Now I'll always know how far I have left to go and how awful the terrain is!

LOL. Dawkins is an angry, frustrated man. As a person who's belief system could be accurately described as "secular", I am embarrassed by him. He does write very well though. 8)

I was given the Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds, and the Launceston Field Naturalists Club guide to Flowers and Plants in Tasmania. Will help me identify things in this alien environment...

Nice choice family, thanks very much!

I was given sea to summit quagmire canvas gaiters, sea to summit tiny packs and vouchers. Now I just need to spend the vouchers. $50 each at Paddy's and Mountain Designs.

I received another Dictionary :) a Macquarie Mini Colour one just right for bushwalks just in case I run out of words or meanings, you can never have enough dictionaries ( saving up to buy my next big Macquarie one) it is a bugger when you have all of your BW gear and cannot think of what you would really want .
Used my Snowgum voutcher to purchase 2 sets of "coolbods" Boxers how sad is that
Still better to be pitied than Scolded and be able to laugh at myself unlike some :?:
