Have a look at how worn the path is! So many people, you can see the vegetation totally stripped from the saddle due to foot traffic, and the orange bare ground scar dotted with people leading around the side of the peak.

Isn't this how the Cradle plateau would have been if it were not for the track work?

The natural dam walkway between these lakes in Jutenheim is very famous and has been for centuries... it certainly sees more traffic than anything in Australia ... regarding the deep tracks - this part of of Jutenheim is waaay above the treeline which is at around 1000m so there is bugger all vegetation to hold what soil is left after ice that is packed here in winter... added to the damage is that Norwegians are amazing outdoors people... their culture seems to be centred around getting outside no matter what the weather... In Bodo - a little place just above the Arctic Cirlce - there is a 30km ski run that is lit up with hummungeous lights 24/7 thru winter so that the locals can get a ski/run/sled in the dark months!

We've got a tame Norwegian at work who said it was a very well known, popular and commercialised spot. Features in Norse mythology apparently. There are some good shots of it on wikipedia. And there is quite a big drop hidden by the mist on the left of the photo.
